Set in wartime Britain, the episode sees Claire Skinner in the role of war widow Madge Arwell, who, along with her two young children, have been evacuated to the countryside. And when Madge and the children arrive at their new home, they meet The Caretaker, who is of course none other than the Doctor! No comments Doctor Who Confidential – which is a behind-the-scenes show that airs on BBC3 – has been axed due to budget cuts within the corporation. In a statement, a BBC spokeswoman said, “‘Doctor Who Confidential’ has been a great show for BBC Three over the years… “But our priority now is to build on original British commission s, unique to the channel.” The spin-off show, which was first launched in 2005, features interviews with the cast and crew, as well as the show’s writers, special effects team and various on set segments. No comments The Sun’s TV Biz has revealed that Saturday’s episode of Doctor Who was trounced in the ratings by ITV’s All Star Family Fortunes. And it seems the reason for poor viewer numbers is that many fans say they’re put off watching the show because it’s storyline have become “too complicated.” A primetime audience of 5.9million watched the episode on Saturday, 6.2million tuned in to All Star Family Fortunes. Delighted Vernon Kay, host of Family Fortunes, said, “Wow! The Time Lord can beat the Daleks but not Family Fortunes! No comments Matt Smith , who of course plays the current incarnation of Doctor Who , has revealed that he’d like the show’s 50th anniversary episode to be shot in 3-D. That episode is due to be filmed in November 2013, and despite recently claiming he won’t stay on as the Doctor indefinitely, Matt says he intends to be a part of the episode. He told BANG Showbiz, “I love making ‘Doctor Who’ and I get to be part of that 50th year which they’ll do something mental for. “You know it will be brilliant. The 28-year-old actor took over the role from David Tennant in 2010 and Nicholas – who voices the Daleks, Cybermen and Judoon monsters in the BBC sci-fi series – insists his portrayal is one of his favourites and reminds him of the late Patrick Troughton’s imagining of the character in the 60s. The actor did not reveal which storyline would see him donning the facial hair but did admit that he couldn’t grow a real one in time. “It was a glued-on beard,” he told PA. “I wouldn’t be able to grow a full-on beard like that in time.” Smith also admitted that the beard was difficult to take off at the end of filming each day. “They had to remove it with a substance smelling like white turps,” he said. The show runner is looking forward to the premiere of the sixth series of the hit BBC show next Saturday night and told Radio Times that the opening two parter titled ‘The Impossible Astronaut’ and ‘Day of the Moon’ feels just as exciting as a series finale. No comments Doctor Who boss Steven Moffat has warned fans that the start of the upcoming sixth series will be very ‘dark.’ The writer and producer told Digital Spy that the two opening episodes ‘The Impossible Astronaut’ and ‘Day of the Moon’ will both be “darker than any other opener of a season”. “We’ve been pretty dark before in Doctor Who,” he revealed, adding: “But we’re coming in [to a series] from the dark side just because we haven’t done it that way before.” However, don’t stop your kids tuning in. No comments Doctor Who ’s famous Daleks are reportedly set to be dropped from the new series of the BBC One show. The Time Lord – played by Matt Smith – will instead fight The Cybermen as they try to destroy the Earth, with TV bosses deciding it was time to give the Daleks a rest after the robotic aliens first appeared in the long-running sci-fi series in 1963. According to the Daily Star newspaper, other baddies to feature this year include an army of Nazis, space pirates, evil dolls and The Silents, with the show being split in to two halves.
