OWN » by Andy Dehnart / January 28, 2011, 8:45 AM While Your OWN Show: Oprah’s Search for the Next TV Star is a pretty weak competition series, the other major reality show on the new network, Season 25: Oprah Behind the Scenes , is surprisingly great television. I rarely watch Oprah, but I find this to be fascinating; I’d watch an hour of it every day if I could. The show, which airs new episodes on Fridays at 8 p.m. ET, follows Oprah’s daytime talk show’s producers as they assemble episodes of the show, and cameras go everywhere from dressing rooms to rehearsals to Oprah’s office. There’s a little too much of what I think of as the ABC reality show vibe: that jaunty music, the overly dramatic orchestration, the obviously controlled presentation. I’d like it to be a little rawer and grittier, because the show touches on some raw, tense moments, but I understand why they’d want a shiny surface on the less-than-perfect parts.
