The ads that aired during the Super Bowl tonight were mostly misses, I think, from the Teleflora ad that insisted giving flowers results in receiving oral sex to the Fiat ad with faux semen, aired on the network that wouldn’t air a reality show with real semen. But I digress. Some of the ads were good, but NBC’s promo department really hit a home run—er, got a touchdown—with this spot for The Voice . It’s perfection from start to finish. One of the more unintentionally entertaining parts of Thursday’s American Idol results show was the group number. Despite being choreographed by So You Think You Can Dance favorites Tabitha and Napoleon, it was a hot mess, as usual. While it seemed like the finalists were lip syncing their way through part of a singing competition, the show’s executive producer says they were singing live. On Twitter, executive producer Nigel Lythgoe wrote , “I have no reason to lie to you all! I promise you they all sang live on top of a recorded a backing track with harmonies.” Nigel repeatedly insisted this during his normal battles with fans. Two years ago, the show’s production company responded to similar claims by saying basically what Nigel did: they sing along with pre-recorded backing tracks. Lakers player Lamar Odom almost quit his E! reality series Khloe & Lamar shortly after production began, but now he’s still filming the series even during the playoffs. “By the third or fourth day, I realized how tough and demanding it was going to be. I was like, ‘I don’t think I could do this.’ But we worked through it. What I do is, like, usually on a game day, I won’t film, because I have to have my mind in a certain place and I have to rest my body,” he told the Los Angeles Times . Khloe told the paper, “We literally film our shows seven days a week for 12 to 18 hours a day. They want you to be at your wit’s end and tired. I think he thought we could send the cameras away whenever you want, but you can’t. And I didn’t want to put him under that pressure. The American Idol judges used their save on Casey Abrams, which means two finalists will go home next week but all 11 remaining contestants will go on the summer tour. Stefano Langone and Thia Megia were also in the bottom three, but Casey being on the bottom was a surprise, if not completely shocking. Nigel Lythgoe teased the shocking results, but I expected that to be something lame: at the most, a seemingly popular, praised contestant (Jacob, maybe?) ends up in the bottom three. But no, it was Casey, who has received praise from the judges even if he isn’t always perfect. Besides being a crowd-pleaser, he’s also popular on Twitter , thus ending the trends of the least-popular finalists on Twitter ending up in the bottom three. As part of the storyline, viewers will see newly married Ronnie fleeing to the Queen Vic with her dead baby, when she hears Kat Moon’s baby crying and swaps hers for the living child. Ronnie has previously lost her daughter Danielle, who died in her arms after being knocked down by Janine. A source told The Sun: “Most of the crew have never shot anything quite so sensitive. “Filming stopped for over an hour as people found it hard to continue without breaking down. Last Saturday, Animal Planet launched its You Watch, We Give campaign, which raised money for the nonprofit organization featured on its reality series Pit Bulls and Parolees based on the number of viewers who tuned in. Ratings doubled for that episode, and the network is giving $50,000 to Tia Torres’ Villalobos Rescue Center. Animal Planet said that 1.1 million people watched, and “the episode was the series’ highest rated episode to-date among most key demos.” The Washington Post reports that’s “54 percent more people than the show has averaged this season to date.” That’s a pretty smart and awesome way to get people to watch a TV show, since it benefits both the network and a non-profit organization. This is part of the network’s ROAR, Reach Out. Act. The Dancing with the Stars judges went easy on this season’s resident bad dancer and pseudo-controversial competitor, Bristol Palin , during the show’s finale, scoring her just below perfect Jennifer Grey and near-perfect Kyle Massey, who ended up with a 56 out of 60. Bristol received 52 out of 60 for her two dances, including three nines for her do-over but still bad jive, from judges Bruno Tonoli, Len Goodman, and Carrie Ann Inaba. Though she’s at the bottom, we’ve seen before that is often irrelevant in this competition. msnbc.com’s Ree Hines wrote that “the redemption dance just reinforced the fact that Palin is out of her ballroom depth.
