The Voice will keep all six of its judges next year, including Usher and Shakira, who have been the subject of reports in recent days suggesting they’re leaving. Instead, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton will be on both seasons, while CeeLo Green and Christina Aguilera will appear in the fall with Usher and Shakira replacing them in the spring, just like this year. EW reported the news, noting that “NBC is finalizing deals with Shakira and Usher,” meaning it’s not 100 percent locked in yet. The first-ever all-star Celebrity Apprentice concluded with Donald Trump breaking from tradition and selecting the finalist seated to his right, Trace Adkins, as the winner of the $250,000 prize, which goes to his charity, the American Red Cross. Overall, Adkins raised $1,554,072 for American Red Cross, while Penn Jillette raised $698,655 for Opportunity Village, according to NBC. Jillette’s total for his charity, which helps people with intellectual disabilities get jobs, included $100,000 for having the best-selling Walgreens ice cream. Survivor ’s reunion ignored every contestant who didn’t make the jury, and that will probably be the case for future reunions, too, giving the show more time for host Jeff Probst to talk to random audience members and fawn over his bros. But they weren’t excluded for creative reasons; instead, it was because there wasn’t enough room on the set. Friday’s epic episode of Kitchen Nightmares , on which the owners of Amy’s Baking Company led Gordon Ramsay to quit, resulted in a flood of reviews of the restaurant on Yelp, but not from people who’d been there. Instead, they appeared to be from viewers who apparently needed a place to anonymously vent and be awful and abusive, based on their newfound, obviously comprehensive knowledge of what they’d only seen on TV. This is almost predictable and common now for venues featured on makeover shows such as Bar Rescue , Restaurant: Impossible , and Tabatha Takes Over . The reality series bring attention to a venue that then gets reviewed by people who’ve never been there, generally focused on criticizing the people they’ve seen on TV. (It’s interesting that, despite the usually uplifting nature of the last acts of these shows, some viewers are left with strongly negative impressions of the owners/chefs and the establishment.) In the aftermath of the Survivor Caramaon reunion drama, with the eight pre-merge contestants being excluded, there’s been a lot of conversation about whether that improved or weakened the reunion. Jeff Probst was defensive in his explanation, offering a weak excuse and saying their goal is “to produce the best reunion show we can.” While excluding almost half the cast is a dramatic shift, the reunion hasn’t been at its best in years. What Jeff Probst is interested in talking about or focusing on is increasingly not what I care about. In the early days of Survivor , the show didn’t use its own host as host of its reunions. Bryant Gumbel hosted the first three, back when the show was a ratings and pop culture phenomenon, and although he probably brought a bit of credibility, he lacked passion and, you know, knowledge. Last night, the Dancing with the Stars final results show took the crown with almost 15 million viewers. As is normally the case on a Tuesday evening, The Voice followed closely behind. The second episode of So You Think You Can Dance came second from the bottom with a repeat of The Vampire Diaries coming in last place. Dancing with the Stars took an impressive 14.95m viewers last night whilst The Voice came in second place but with considerably less viewers, scoring 10m. Further down the table, a special news broadcast was watched by 8.16m, a repeat of NCIS took 7.75m, NCIS: Los Angeles – repeat (7.71m), NCIS – repeat (7.15m), Grimm (5.22m), The Bachelor (4.74m). This season of Kitchen Nightmares delivered what was easily the series’ best episode, and since that aired, there has been a lot of off-camera drama thanks to owners Samy and Amy Bouzaglo—and viewers who responded strongly to what they saw. Their restaurant, Amy’s Baking Company, has received threats from the show’s producers and had a re-opening yesterday, in addition to being subjected to hacking and parody, including the mock ad below. After the episode aired, the restaurant’s Facebook page was flooded with all-caps comments lashing out at viewers, much as they had lashed out at customers on the episode. Eater archived all the posts, which are hilarious as performance art or parody. Duck Dynasty ’s extreme popularity is now as well-known as its total artificiality. It’s a scripted sitcom that lies to viewers, except it’s honest about one thing: its cast members’ personalities. The cast appeared on Katie Couric’s talk show Wednesday, and did a good job of proving why they are entirely the reason why the show works, and why it’s going to be all but impossible to duplicate its success (though a lot of networks will be trying, ugh). They played a version of Family Feud (during which the Swamp People cast members demonstrated some remarkable Kardashian knowledge) and told stories about the show’s origin. They’re not exactly new to doing media or interviews, and are obviously confortable in front of cameras, but still, they’re funny and charming and comfortable with being themselves, and that works. John Cochran won Survivor with 100 percent of the jury’s vote, only the third time that has happened in the show’s history. So what happens to the second-place $100,000 prize? Do both Dawn Meehan and Sherri Biethman get it, or will they split it? Actually, Dawn and Sherri will split the combined total of the second ($100,000) and third ($85,000) place prizes. Dawn told EW’s Dalton Ross, “What they do is take second and third and then divide us.” He asked if they each received $92,500, and she confirmed that, meaning the third-place prize 185is $85,000. Interestingly, in 2007, Survivor Fiji also ended with a zero-vote tie for second place, and while fourth-place Yau-Man initially said that Dreamz and Cassandra each received $100,000, but may have backtracked on that, saying they split second and third-place prizes, just like this season. Survivor Caramoan was a shit sundae: Several scoops of feces covered with enough whipped pleasantness to make us forget what we were eating, topped with a maraschino cherry of a reunion that didn’t even resemble the real thing. Yes, the last few weeks were very entertaining, but that doesn’t forgive what came first. The season began with a weak cast being overshadowed by wildlife (the tarsier!). Then came the supreme ugliness and its aftermath. Then the season treaded water with boring repetition and an unfair twist .Thankfully, it ended with Malcolm’s amazing moves, which gave us this masterpiece. Cochran’s well-deserved win followed some shocking cruelty. Despite the really awesome moments and highlights, I stand by my assessment that Jeff Probst inflicted the death blow to the series this season, though he’s been wounding it in recent years. It may take a few more seasons or years to bleed out, but considering the twist, name, and casting for season 27, it’s dying fast. That makes

Dancing with the Stars will only air on one night this fall, as ABC has cancelled its Tuesday night results shows. That’s similar to the decision Fox made last year to limit So You Think You Can Dance to a single night, combining the performance and results into one awkward hour of television. ABC said in a press release that its Monday 8 to 10 p.m. episodes will be “integrating the performance show and results show into one night and making each episode action-packed event television.” Yes, I’m sure it will be. Meanwhile, the network has awesomely renewed Shark Tank and bafflingly renewed The Taste , a show that had a low-rated and creatively weak finale after starting off with bizarre judging. It’s no longer a secret that cities and/or states pay to host a season of Top Chef . The show is headed to New Orleans for its 11th season, which has been known for about a month now, but was only confirmed by Bravo on Friday. Today, there’s news of how much money this cost: $375,000, less than the $600,000 Texas paid and $300,000 the show reportedly wanted from Seattle. The Times-Picayune reports that the show will receive “$200,000 from the Louisiana Office of Tourism, [and] $175,000 from the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corp.” The money the state is contributing “will come from a recovery fund established by BP after the Deepwater Horizon disaster,” the paper reports, citing a staff member in the governor’s office. The president of New Orleans tourism office, Mark Romig, told the paper that Top Chef is “going to embrace New Orleans and the region in a very holistic way” and added, “I think New Orleans at the end of the day will be very proud about how they represent the city and

The Celebrity Apprentice ’s sixth season concludes Sunday, and it may be easy to tell who which of the final two celebrities will win the prize for their charity: that’s because Donald Trump has always chosen the celebrity sitting on his left as the show’s winner. News that Top Chef received $200,000 from the oil spill fund the Deepwater Horizon disaster has prompted controversy and a debate of sorts between Bravo VP Andy Cohen, chef Anthony Bourdain, and TV auteur David Simon. All of this was significant enough to prompt Bravo to respond last night, defending its actions by posting a statement from the city’s marketing office that says its money didn’t come from the oil spill fund: “The New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation is giving $175,000 to invest in bringing Top Chef to New Orleans. Our investment came from our normal budget, which we planned for, not BP dollars. The BP dollars we have received are being used for our summer online advertising campaign, per our grant request for those funds.” While that may be accurate, Bravo’s use of it as a defense is utter bullshit, though very clever.
