Angelea's disqualification remains unexplained, but CW admits Top Model finale was reshot

America’s Next Top Model’s 17th and first all-star cycle concluded last night with controversy, as a final-three model Angelea Preston, who apparently initially won, was disqualified without explanation, leaving the judges to select a new winner. (Skip to the next paragraph if you don’t want to know who that was: Lisa D’Amato won the competition and $100,000, plus other prizes; Allison Harvard came in second.) Host/egomaniac Tyra Banks has mostly been silent and left the explanation to judge Nigel Barker, who said during the episode, “after shooting was wrapped, our production team and the network learned information from Angelea that disqualifies her from the competition.” The “after shooting was wrapped” part suggested they re-filmed parts of the finale, and The CW confirmed said in a statement today: “After production wrapped on the current cycle of America’s Next Top Model, we learned information that made Angelea ineligible and she was subsequently disqualified from the competit...

X Factor admits to obvious lip syncing, backing track usage

X Factor »     by Andy Dehnart / November 7, 2011, 7:19 AM The first results show for The X Factor continued the show’s tradition of plagiarizing heavily from American Idol by starting with a bad group number that was lip synced by the show’s contestants. Fox has admitted that the contestants lip sync group numbers and also use backing tracks for their live performances. (The UK version admitted auto-tuning its contestants’ performances ; Idol admitted to group performance lip syncing back in 2009.) On Thursday, group’s performance of “Without You” opened the show and was very obviously lip synced from the very start, well before LeRoy Bell forgot to raise the mic to his mouth when his track started, which means he’s getting unfair attention. Fox admitted that the contestants lip sync, telling TheWrap , “All survival songs are performed live, with just a backing track. For the group ensemble performance, the vocals are pre-recorded to allow acts to concentrate on preparing for thei...

Simon Cowell admits he was bored on American Idol (no kidding)

In the least surprising confession of the year, Simon Cowell admits that he was bored during his last few years of American Idol, which was extremely obvious during his last season . Despite his honesty, that gives me even less confidence about his new Fox show The X Factor , because how different is his new job, really? Maybe he’ll be more excited because he’s making more money off of this series instead of merely showing up to do a job he no longer liked? That revelation comes in a very strange profile in GQ that details Simon’s routines such as his breakfast ritual, which involves texting his assistant so his housekeeper can make his breakfast of smoothies, and the “intravenous drip with B12, magnesium, vitamin C” that he gets weekly. “I was bored. But at the same time, I had a deal with Fox, and you’ve got to do what you’ve been paid to do,” Simon told GQ. “There were times I used to wake up and I knew it was an audition day, and it was the same feelings I used to get Sunday nigh...
