So You Think You Can Dance eighth season runner-up Sasha Mallory is an out lesbian, but didn’t reveal her sexual orientation on the show, and her rationale is disturbingly close to Nigel Lythgoe’s moronic and homophobic arguments about why no one ever comes out on his shows, which is far more glaring than competitions series where gay contestants are out. In an interview with After Ellen , Sasha talks about being one of the few gay women she knows in dance, and explained why she didn’t come out on the show: “It’s not important for America to know that personal side of me. They just needed to know if I could dance and if I had a personality. They didn’t really need to know if I was gay or straight. Who I’m sleeping with is not important.
