The former Stars In Their Eyes presenter has already filmed his first scenes for the BBC medical drama and will hit our screens at the end of this month. Bosses had originally planned for him appear for one episode only, however he impressed them so much with his portrayal as an eccentric psychiatrist they asked him return for more episodes. Producer Oliver Kent told The Mirror: “Matthew has already made a big impression.” Although best known as a TV star, Matthew is an accomplished and award winning actor. He won an Olivier Award in 2003 for his portrayal of Lenny in John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men at the Savoy Theatre. More recently, in January 2010 he replaced Simon Callow as Pozzo in the revival of Waiting for Godot at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, alongside Lord Of The Rings star Ian McKellen.
