Animal Planet should be commended for the ambition of Taking on Tyson : a beautifully shot series about Mike Tyson’s actual, real-life love for pigeons. Unfortunately, the series was boring, sometimes excruciatingly so, never mind repetitive, and its six hours should have been condensed into one 90-minute documentary. The fact that this quasi-review is being published weeks after it concluded is indicative of how it just failed to capture my attention: I even forgot to publish this. Animal Planet ended up burning off the final two hours of the series on April 4, a week and a day after its four episode aired. It’d be unfair to expect this series to have the visceral intensity and tension of Whale Wars , but it is fair to expect it to move forward. The Real Housewives of New York City has been pushed back , and a report says it was because the cast is too boring, which may lead Bravo to bring Beverly Hills cast member Camille Grammer in for a guest appearance and cause the series to stray even further from reality than it currently is. Yesterday, Andy Cohen e.mailed the cast members to alert them that their season was being bumped in exchange for the new Miami version, and said, “We decided yesterday that our best bet was to give ourselves a little breathing room. I would rather get the show right than rush it to air.” But Page Six reports that “the New York show didn’t have enough drama to satisfy producers, including new executive producer Omid Kahangi,” so “one option to up the local drama might be to bring Beverly Hills housewife Camille Grammer to New York, the location of her divorce drama with Kelsey Grammer, who is soon to marry girlfriend Kayte Walsh. Dancing with the Stars two-hour premiere last night was so boring just thinking about how to summarize it for this sentence makes me sleepy. Waiting two hours to watch Kirstie Alley have some fun dancing just isn’t worth it. But not all viewers felt the same way; more tuned in during the second hour than in the first, and an average of 22.27 million people watched, making it easily the most popular show of the night. But TV By the Numbers reports that it was “down 20% from last year’s spring premiere” among adults ages 18 to 49.
