Faced with a lawsuit from the producers of The Bachelor, “Reality” Steve Carbone’s lawyer has responded by saying Steve did not receive information from contestants from the ABC series, even though the lawsuit includes alleged e.mail messages from him that actively solicit information from contestants. In a response to a Nov. 22 letter from the show’s lawyers, Steve’s attorney replied with a letter he posted on his site in response to the lawsuit, which he says he has not yet seen or been served. His attorney wrote, in part, “…Mr. Carbone has not received any confidential information from the participants whom you indicate may have received recent emails from him, and he has no intention of posting any information from such participants, as no such information was provided. There has in fact been no interference with your clients’ participant contracts, and your assumption about alleged disclosures of information by any such participants as stated in your letter is incorrect. As American Idol 10 prepares to pre-tape its first performance episode of the finals today, executive producer and band leader have responded to criticism over the live performances in interesting ways: by calling fans morons and blaming contestants for technical problems. First, MJ’s Big Blog reported that tomorrow night’s performance episode will be pre-taped, but points out that “the first week of ‘live’ shows have always been taped.” Nigel Lythgoe confirmed the pre-taping on Twitter , where he got even angrier at fans who criticized that: “…we have a new Director & new judges. It has nothing to do with manipulation you morons.” Yesterday, Nigel admitted that they’ve had “a tough day trying to get the sound right.” The awkward sound mix for some performances on last week’s episode has been blamed on the contestants. With all the conversations American Idol’s changes for its 10 seasons, the big one seems to be that season 10 will focus on developing contestants as artists, not just as karaoke singers who are part of a money-making machine. Discussion of helping them grow as artists was the refrain repeated by many of the panel of nine people—including and producers Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick, and new judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, along with Randy Jackson and mentor Jimmy Iovine—who faced TV critics yesterday.
