It seems as though the producers of American Idol are hoping to create an artist that will appeal more to pop audiences in Season 10 of the hit FOX reality show. In addition to the other big changes being made this year, like their superstar judges, AI has decided to go in a different direction when it comes to the mentors they choose to work with contestants. So who did the American Idol producers tap to work with the 60 Idol contestants in Las Vegas?

If you’re not a fan of pop music, you probably won’t be that familiar with these successful producers, assembled by Idol’s new in-house mentor, Jimmy Iovine of Universal Music Group (UMG will also release the Idol winner’s first album), but there’s no doubt that you’ve heard of at least one or two of the superstar artists that they’ve collaborated with.

Alex da Kid, who recently tweeted about his American Idol experience in Las Vegas: “Been shootin’ for American Idol all day. There were some kool kids,” is responsible for producing Eminem’s hit “Love the Way You Lie,” featuring Rihanna, and B.o.B’s “Airplanes,” featuring Hayley Williams.

Christopher “Tricky” Stewart produced teen heartthrob Justin Bieber’s “Baby,” featuring Ludacris, Beyonce’s smash hit, “Single Ladies,” and Rihanna’s “Umbrella.”

Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins has worked on hits like Lady Gaga’s “Telephone,” featuring Beyonce, and “When I Grow Up,” by the Pussycat Dolls.

Other producers helping out the 60 Idol contestants in Las Vegas are Polow da Don, who has produced several Keri Hilson tracks, like “Turnin’ Me On,” featuring Lil Wayne, and Jim Jonsin, who’s responsible for Nelly’s recent hit, “Just a Dream,” and T.I.’s “Whatever You Like.”

According to an Idol insider, the producers are working with the 60 contestants in Vegas to  prepare them for a performance in front of the judges, not a live audience. Each contestant will perform a Beatles song on the same stage that Cirque du Soleil performs its Beatles-themed show, LOVE.

The season premiere of American Idol airs Wednesday, January 19 on Fox.

How to make: A fashionable cake

The Stella McCartney ‘fruit print’ has become one of the most iconic patterns for the season, with high street brands such as Zara following suit. However, the look can be fairly difficult to pull off unless you’re a stick thin model, so we’ve found a way to get your fashion fix and your hunger fix for a fraction of the cost of a real Stella.
