Survivor One World cast includes crazy characters, the show's first little person

The cast of Survivor One World was announced by CBS yesterday, and includes the first little person to ever play the game. Based on the video preview below, it also includes a lot of over-the-top, borderline crazy personalities, like people who insist upon being called “Troyzan” and “Tarzan” (and those are two different men). Thankfully, as the video introduction moves on, more normal cast members are introduced; in it, host Jeff Probst tells us that season 24’s cast are “all very attractive” and “aren’t afraid to make big moves.” Season 24 won’t include Redemption Island, although Probst threatens to have it return in the future in an interview with EW, in which he also says we can expect more “Do It Yourself challenges” this season for which Probst doesn’t show up, including ones that happen on the tribe’s beach. I’m skeptical about that, since part of the fun of challenges is the production design and incredible things the challenge team builds, but obviously they can’t and don’t ...

Face-sucking and wild, crazy promotion give The Bachelor its lowest ratings ever

The Bachelor had its lowest ratings ever on Monday, dropping significantly without much competition, perhaps a sign that Ben Flanjik was a poor choice. Monday’s episode—aka the episode during which Blakeley really did good work for the producers—had just 7.2 million viewers, which Entertainment Weekly reports were its “lowest numbers ever” and “down 8 percent from last week’s premiere” and a night that “should have been stronger since rival CBS aired nothing but repeats.” That happened despite both the make-out session and game-playing by Blakeley, and the network’s best attempt to sell this season as actually interesting. People’s Jan. 16 cover, on newsstands before the episode aired, screamed, “The Bachelor Gets Wild!” with a hilariously unflattering photo, and teased “cat fights & crazy nights” and “an outragous cast of would-be wives.” One episode isn’t enough to declare a season or a series dead. But I do wonder if the desperation to continue the ongoing narrative by castin...

Survivor's alliance sticks with loyalty, integrity, and a crazy person they can easily beat

Survivor South Pacific took another step toward its apparently inevitable conclusion tonight, detouring so several contestants could make an ad for Sprint with their family members before Edna’s inevitable elimination. Not even the previews could convince us that the dominant alliance would keep a smart person over a crazy person. First, Cochran took his final bow as he lost at Redemption Island to Ozzy, though the duel was significantly less of a blow-out than most of us expected. While Ozzy breezed through the first part so fast that Probst nearly crapped his pants (“Keep fightin’, Cochran. Let’s go”), Cochran caught up using a crazy strategy with the ball maze, just flinging it around. It worked, though, and he caught up and was about to beat Ozzy when instead of slowing down for a nanosecond, his methodology backfired and sent the ball out of the winner’s circle into a hole. It was a metaphor for his strategy in the game, really: wild and crazy moves that usually worked but ultima...

Gary Busey, genius saboteur and/or crazy person, finally exits Celebrity Apprentice

Gary Busey has finally exited The Celebrity Apprentice, just as his brand of insanity was starting to get old. As Donald Trump is fond of telling himself, he had no choice but to fire Gary, whose antics have essentially made John Rich, Lil’ Jon, and Meat Loaf as crazy as he is. Meat Loaf was reduced to a stuttering mess in the boardroom, where Trump framed the firing as essentially for the benefit of Meat Loaf’s mental health. It was for ours’, too. While Gary’s ridiculousness has been entertaining, it was very frustrating during last night’s episode, most likely because the editing let us see him through the other three men’s eyes. John Rich’s reaction told us everything we needed to know. He’s so mild-mannered and he has clearly been driven to insanity, if not a spectacular Meat Loaf-style breakdown , by Gary’s antics, and last night, the team—except Meat Loaf—basically checked out to let Gary fail. The episode was edited to suggest that John Rich’s theory was right: Gary Busey is e...

American Idol: Steven Tyler’s Band Not Crazy About His “Idol” Gig

« The Biggest Loser: Ashley Johnston Teams Up With Rite Aid To Promote Weight Loss | Home | Jersey Shore: “Snooki” Sick Of Famous Nickname » January 13, 2011 11:00:17 by Paula_Kosowski Fox’s new American Idol judge and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler is getting a lot of flack from his band about his decision to go on the show, according to The Boston Herald. Keep reading to see why he decided to go for it anyway… The Boston Herald reports new American Idol judge Steven Tyler made an unpopular decision with his band when he signed on to the show. Tyler doesn’t let it bother him. “Everyone’s got their opinion,” Tyler says. “I want to test my limitations…I’ve been judged all my life for what I do. Many have things to say about it, but it’s not going to fly. I am who I am.” Tyler briefly commented on his band’s reaction at the Television Critics Association panel, saying they thought he was a sellout for doing “Idol,” but focused more on the new season and Aerosmith’s new album, a...

Survivor: crazy stuff happens and Marty leaves

Survivor Nicaragua threw a lot at us last night: contestants crashing through brick walls, Jeff Probst taking sides, Jane transforming into the Crypt Keeper, NaOnka having another insane outburst, and Marty finally taking the walk of shame. First, the immunity challenge was something straight out of Big Brother, just with better prop design and hosting. It also wasn’t that difficult but Brenda beat everyone easily. They must have been fatigued; otherwise, is it really that hard to remember six symbols—six symbols that you can turn into six letters of the alphabet, or a mnemonic device? The best part about it was Kelly’s name tag, which actually said “Purple Kelly.” Give it up: I still don’t believe she’s even a contestant. She’s probably a Dream Teamer who’s just trying to get more screen time than having her hands and feet shown during challenge descriptions. Earlier, the reward challenge was a team-based challenge despite the fact that we’re now post-merge. I get why they do these—f...
