Face-sucking and wild, crazy promotion give The Bachelor its lowest ratings ever

The Bachelor had its lowest ratings ever on Monday, dropping significantly without much competition, perhaps a sign that Ben Flanjik was a poor choice. Monday’s episode—aka the episode during which Blakeley really did good work for the producers—had just 7.2 million viewers, which Entertainment Weekly reports were its “lowest numbers ever” and “down 8 percent from last week’s premiere” and a night that “should have been stronger since rival CBS aired nothing but repeats.” That happened despite both the make-out session and game-playing by Blakeley, and the network’s best attempt to sell this season as actually interesting. People’s Jan. 16 cover, on newsstands before the episode aired, screamed, “The Bachelor Gets Wild!” with a hilariously unflattering photo, and teased “cat fights & crazy nights” and “an outragous cast of would-be wives.” One episode isn’t enough to declare a season or a series dead. But I do wonder if the desperation to continue the ongoing narrative by castin...

Are Biggest Loser ratings down because Jillian Michaels left?

Jillian Michaels left The Biggest Loser at the end of its 11th season, and although the show replaced her with two people, both Justin Bieber’s trainer and Anna Kournikova, the show’s ratings are down significantly. Is that just because of her absence? While ratings went up last week compared to the previous week, the last episode in October had season-low ratings, with a 1.9 among 18 to 49-year-olds and just 5.45 million viewers. In a piece about NBC’s ongoing woes, The New York Times reported that “The Office,’ the drama ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’ and the reality show ‘The Biggest Loser’ are all down significantly this season. Not coincidentally, important cast members have left all three shows.” Jillian agrees that it’s because she left, although she mitigates the arrogance of that by saying the same would have happened if Bob Harper left. “I know if Bob had left and I’d stayed, the ratings would bomb in the same way,” she said. Jillian is also upset that the show d...

Doctor Who’s Saturday episode trounced in the ratings by All Star Family Fortunes!

Home > Drama > Doctor Who’s Saturday episode trounced in the ratings by All Star Family Fortunes! September 19th, 2011 by Sarah. No comments The Sun’s TV Biz has revealed that Saturday’s episode of Doctor Who was trounced in the ratings by ITV’s All Star Family Fortunes. And it seems the reason for poor viewer numbers is that many fans say they’re put off watching the show because it’s storyline have become “too complicated.” A primetime audience of 5.9million watched the episode on Saturday, 6.2million tuned in to All Star Family Fortunes. Delighted Vernon Kay, host of Family Fortunes, said, “Wow! The Time Lord can beat the Daleks but not Family Fortunes! Great!” Doctor Who’s latest six-part run kicked off with 6.4million last month, but even Matt Smith , who plays the Time Lord, confessed that some of the plotlines were so complicated they even had HIM stumped. He added that he’d had to read the scripts several times before he understood them. However, he defended the show’...

Live to Dance dies off with dismal ratings as kids ages 10 and 11 win $500,000

Paula Abdul’s CBS reality competition Live to Dance aired its season—and, let’s hope, series—finale last night, and the ratings were dismal: Just 4.81 million viewers watched, and the show had a .9 rating and 3 share among viewers 18 to 49, according to TV By the Numbers . That means less than one percent of people that age were watching; by comparison, American Idol had 23.67 million viewers and a 8.3 rating and 23 share in 18-49. I won’t even pretend to have watched, but the Hartford Courant’s Roger Catlin did and reprots that the $500,000 prize went to a 10-year-old and a 11-year-old: D’Angelo Castro and Amanda Carbajales. They beat another 10-year-old, Kendall Glover, who got second place. But this wasn’t a kid competition; adult ballet dancers White Tree Fine Art came in third. Correction: This story initially misstated the winners’ ages as a result of an incorrect report elsewhere; they are 10 and 11 years old. View the original article here

Jersey Shore: Snooki’s Drunken Arrest Gets MTV Record Ratings

« Your OWN Show’s Oprah Winfrey Reveal’s Family Secret | Home | The Biggest Loser: Dan Evans Swears That He Did Not Throw The Weigh In » January 24, 2011 01:00:47 by Paula_Kosowski “Snooki’s” drunken arrest may have been a low for the Jersey Shore reality star, but it was a series high for MTV. Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi’s intoxicated adventures brought in record number of viewers. Keep reading to see how the episode stacked up against its competition… According to Us Magazine, 8.9 million viewers tuned in to watch “Snooki” get arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct. The arrest occurred July 30th in Seaside Heights, New Jersey. The website reports the record number of viewers for this episode surpassed a previous record set by the third episode of the show’s third season just a week earlier. 300,000 more viewers tuned in for the fourth episode. Us Magazine says the show’s ratings were some of the highest for any show in the history of the network. “Jersey Shore” also did...

Real World's ratings lead MTV to renew it for seasons 27 and 28

After its 25th season, The Real World won’t disappear like evidence of a gay porn star cast member’s gay sex , because MTV has renewed it for three more seasons, announcing the pick-ups of seasons 27 and 28 today. Season 26 is currently casting . In its press release, MTV noted that the current season “has ranked #1 with [all people ages 12 to 34] in its time period across all of television,” and the second episode had ratings that were up “28% from the prior week’s season premiere” for a total of 2.2 million viewers. That’s far fewer than Jersey Shore draws, but since more people in MTV’s demographic are interested in watching drunken hook-ups than any other 10 p.m. show on TV, it’s a success. Jersey Shore has its best finale ever, but ratings were down from the season premiere

Jersey Shore had the show’s highest-rated finale yet, but its numbers were down from the record-breaking ratings for its season premiere . That episode had 8.45 million viewers; Thursday’s finale had 7.6 million viewers, according to MTV. Overall, the third season has been the top “series of the year with [people ages 12 to 34,” MTV said. When those 12-year-olds start applying for The Real World, we’re going to be in trouble. Vanessa Feltz’s new show bombs in ratings

Home > Entertainment > Vanessa Feltz’s new show bombs in ratings January 19th, 2011 by Sarah. No comments The Sun today reports that viewing figures for Vanessa Feltz’s new daytime TV show have plummeted to just 40,000 viewers. The Vanessa Show debuted last Monday, and recorded viewing figures of 170,000, but by Friday, as mentioned above, just 40,000 viewers tuned in to the show on Five. As part of the promotional press for the show, it was described as, “the most promising new show in daytime television” which was, at best, optimistic… Vanessa’s fiancé Ben Ofoedu also features on the show, but it seems that viewers simply aren’t interested in either Vanessa or Ben. One Twitter fan wrote, “Is there much point to The Vanessa (Feltz) Show? It’s flat, boring + lifeless. “It needs some zing – another presenter perhaps?” The Vanessa Show previously aired on the BBC during the 1990s, but it was axed after it was revealed that some of Vanessa’s guests on the show had been actors. Fo...

Jersey Shore returns with MTV's highest ratings ever, Snooki products, a GTL Foursquare badge

The return of Jersey Shore Thursday night drew 8.45 million viewers, which MTV said was its “most watched series telecast ever.” So, yes, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, DJ Pauly D, Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino, Vinny Guadagnino, and the rest are still very, very popular. There was a huge increase in viewers compared to the second-season premiere (63 percent more viewers ages 12 to 34) and 36 percent more than the already high-rated finale. The cultural saturation of Jersey Shore is undeniable, but shows no sign of going away: You can now unlock a GTL badge on Foursquare (if you go to a gym, a tanning salon, and a laundramat within seven days of each other), and Snooki is creating her own licensed products , adding to the glut of Jersey Shore products . As to that rather insane licensing, Mary Elizabeth Williams examines this trend and argues that “the deluge of ‘Jersey Shore’-related products suggests that we have entered a new era, one in which reality fame quickly translates into s...

BBC wins Boxing Day ratings war with Eastenders!

December 28th, 2010 by Lisa McGarry. 1 Comment The BBC won the Boxing Day (26.12.10) ratings war. The corporation’s soap ‘EastEnders’ reached a record peak audience of 9.5 million viewers on the second day of the festive holiday as viewers tuned in to see the drama unfold in the wake of Stacey Branning’s decision to flee Albert Square on Christmas Day (25.12.10). The channel’s revival of period drama ‘Upstairs Downstairs’, starring Keeley Hawes and Ed Stoppard also increased ratings, with it’s debut on Sunday peaking at 8.1 million. The programme, which was a hit on ITV in the 70s, had an average rating of more than 7.5 million and an audience share of 28.4 per cent – almost matching ITV’s 7.6 million for period drama ‘Downton Abbey’ earlier this year. ITV1 struggled to compete with comedy ‘Benidorm’, which shared the ‘Upstairs Downstairs’ air time, coming in at only 6.5 million viewers at its highest, while and Harry Hill’s ‘Best Of Christmas TV Burp’ had a peak audience of just 2.9 ...
