No comments The BBC report today that Dame Eileen Atkins has announced that she won’t be starring in the forthcoming new series of Upstairs Downstairs, which she of course helped to create alongside Jean Marsh. Jean of course played maid Rose in the original TV drama – which ran from 1971 to 1975 – and she took on a new role in the latest revamp of the show. Atkins, who didn’t appear in the original series, starred as Lady Holland in the remake. Jean is in fact the only cast member to have starred in both the original and the 2010 version, which also featured Ed Stoppard, Claire Foy and Keeley Hawes. However, the BBC reports that Dame Eileen made her decision to quit the show amid rumours that she’s “unhappy” with the direction the scripts for the new series are presently taking. Discovery announced yesterday that Jake Gyllenhaal will appear on Man vs. Wild when the show returns in July, and the show’s host, Bear Grylls, said that Cameron Diaz has also expressed interest in making an appearance. Previously, Will Ferrell drank his own urine on the show. The press release said Gyllenhaal’s experience lasted two days, and “Bear and Jake embark on a survival experience neither will forget, to an Icelandic landscape dominated by mountains, huge glaciers and some of Europe’s most active volcanoes.” As to Diaz, “She’s agreed to it, which is great. When Jillian Michaels announced that she was quitting The Biggest Loser, she said she was leaving to “focus on becoming a mommy and doing more charity work.” But yesterday, the syndicated daytime talk show The Doctors announced that she was joining the show as a co-host and said she will become a special correspondent on Dr. Phil. As a co-host, Jillian joins The Bachelor star Travis Stork and the show’s other panelists. The series’ executive producer, Dr. Phil’s son Jay McGraw, said Jillian “not only embraces our mission to supply viewers with critical information to make informed and intelligent health care decisions, but more importantly, she leads by example.” In the press release, Jillian said, “I could not be more excited about joining such an amazing show! Dancing with the Stars pro Karina Smirnoff, who’s currently paired with Ralph Macchio, will appear naked in the May issue of Playboy, which will be out in a few weeks. That’s according to Hugh Hefner, who wrote on Twitter , “The May issue of Playboy is unforgettable with Dancing With The Stars’ Karina Smirnoff on the cover & nude inside.” Karina hasn’t commented directly, but her official Facebook page linked to Radar’s story about her appearance in the magazine. This news has freaked at least one person out. Popeater quotes an anonymous “insider” at the ABC reality show who said, “If Karina posed naked, she can kiss her dancing days goodbye. I hope for Karina’s sake that this isn’t true.” Considering that Kendra Wilkinson is currently on Dancing with the Stars, never mind the fact that the photo shoot is probably already done, I cannot imagine producers or the network having a real issue with this, at least not without showing themselves to be complete hypocrites.
