The National Television Awards will take place later this month and it seems there will be some serious competition in some of the categories this year. Stars and crew from some of the year’s biggest TV hits and most popular dramas and soaps will be at the 2013 awards ceremony when it takes place at the 02 in London and the leading men from two of the BBC’s most talked about series will be going head to head on the night. The full list of nominations was released earlier today and it’s been revealed that long running sci fi show Doctor Who and detective drama Sherlock will compete for the title of ‘Best Drama’. Work of Art ’s second season returned last week on Bravo, and after two episodes, it’s safe to say that the Magical Elves-produced show is on track to have another great season, with strong cast members (of course I have to mention “The Sucklord,” whose name describes well what he’s produced so far) to the challenges that inspire them to produce everything from absolute crap to pretty impressive art in such a limited amount of time. However, nothing has really changed in terms of the show’s strengths and weaknesses , which is kind of odd but also oddly okay. The worst part of the show remains the crit, because the judges absolutely suck at critiquing the pieces. That’s important because their decisions are often baffling. Last night’s winner won with a video he filmed of himself spinning in circles; that’s it. About the only reason the judges could give for the win was that it was simple and mesmerizing. I'm not going to play, last night's episode of America's Next Top Model made me want this All Star cycle to be over with quickness. Not only am I over trying to suspend my disbelief that most of these girls were the chosen as "All Stars," but as of yesterday we found out Kelly Cutrone will be replacing Andre Leon Talley as a judge next season. Alright, I won't postpone this any longer, let's dive in. As with the last two episodes, the girls are in the limo cab on their way back to the model house and are discussing the night's elimination results. Lisa says she was surprised she won. At the Television Critics Association awards last night, the first-ever award for outstanding achievement in reality programming went to CBS’ The Amazing Race, adding to its collection of trophies, which include seven consecutive Emmys. In addition, the TCA recognized the must-watch documentary Restrepo with its award for outstanding achievement in news and information. Host Phil Keoghan was among those who came to the ceremony to accept the award. The other reality TV show nominees were Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations , Survivor, Top Chef All Stars, and The Voice . I presented the award to executive producer Bertram van Munster; Phil, executive producer Jonathan Littman, and executive producer Elise Doganieri (who created the idea for the series) were also in attendance. No comments ‘Downton Abbey’ and ‘Sherlock’ will will compete against each other in the Best Drama Series category at this year’s Royal Television Society programme awards. The ITV1 costume drama – starring Dame Maggie Smith and Hugh Bonneville – and BBC One’s detective show are up against E4 series ‘Misfits’ in the prestigious category, while ‘This Is England ’86' is up against ‘Any Human Heart’ and ‘Five Daughters’ for Best Drama Serial. I rarely watch Oprah, but I find this to be fascinating; I’d watch an hour of it every day if I could. The show, which airs new episodes on Fridays at 8 p.m. ET, follows Oprah’s daytime talk show’s producers as they assemble episodes of the show, and cameras go everywhere from dressing rooms to rehearsals to Oprah’s office. There’s a little too much of what I think of as the ABC reality show vibe: that jaunty music, the overly dramatic orchestration, the obviously controlled presentation. I’d like it to be a little rawer and grittier, because the show touches on some raw, tense moments, but I understand why they’d want a shiny surface on the less-than-perfect parts. Don’t get me wrong, Eastenders still do have enjoyable and dramatic story lines, but am I the only one who has noticed this should not be a one horse race anymore? There was a time, a few years back when the likes of Holyoaks started to stand up and be noticed at the award ceremonies, why haven’t we learned from that that every vote does count. Corronation Street celebrated it’s 50th anniversary with the amazing tram crash including one hour long episode shown live. This fall, in their annual " Where We Are on TV " report, GLAAD declared that LGBT visibility was at an all-time high — a pronouncement that left us scratching our heads at AfterEllen.com, wondering if we'd missed something.
