No comments June Brown has reportedly inked a new ‘EastEnders’ contract, which has made her the show’s second-highest earner. The 84-year-old actress – who plays chain-smoking Dot Cotton – will now earn £300,000-a-year as bosses made a desperate bid to keep her much loved character on the BBC soap. Her new deal means only Steve McFadden (Phil Mitchell) is paid more than her and producers are thrilled she decided to stay on. An insider told the News of the World newspaper: “June is soap royalty. The BBC pulled out all the stops. “It’s great news for June and ‘EastEnders’ fans.” A show spokesman added: “Viewers will be pleased to hear they can continue to enjoy June’s brilliant work.” In 2009, June admitted she was worried her alter-ego Dot could be killed off in a bid for the show to save money. No comments EastEnders actor Neil McDermott, who of course plays Ryan Malloy, has told Holy Soap that he believes fans’ reaction to the cot death and baby swap storyline was “blown out of proportion.” However, Neil had previously stated that he and his wife Michelle wouldn’t watch the New Year’s Eve storyline as it would be too upsetting in light of the fact that their own baby was due to be born. Don’t get me wrong, Eastenders still do have enjoyable and dramatic story lines, but am I the only one who has noticed this should not be a one horse race anymore? There was a time, a few years back when the likes of Holyoaks started to stand up and be noticed at the award ceremonies, why haven’t we learned from that that every vote does count. Corronation Street celebrated it’s 50th anniversary with the amazing tram crash including one hour long episode shown live. Eastenders live episode was good, that is not in dispute, but at 25 minutes it had an entire 5 minute filler scene where Ian (Adam Woodyatt) and Dot (June Brown) sat watching the television, not to mention the very first scene being messed up by Jack (Scot Maslen) forgetting his lines and actually mentioning the audience. EastEnders bosses are currently auditioning actors to play the part of Fatboy’s dad, who’s to be called Ashley Chubb. Speaking to the PA about who would play Ashley, Ricky said, “In an ideal world I’d love David Jason to play my dad… “Can you imagine? No comments Eastenders bosses have decided to cut a comment made about the late Elizabeth Taylor on tonight’s episode. Last Friday Alfie and Kat were seen considering a split, however this evening Alfie’s cousin Michael will urge them to give their marriage another go and had said: “You can’t split up. You’re like Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.” Alfie (Shane Richie) the replied: “Isn’t one of them dead?” – he was referring to Burton, who died of a stroke in 1984. However after movie legend Liz died of congestive heart failure last Wednesday, bosses have now decided to cut the line and cameras will now jump to Roxy Mitchell joking: “You’re like salt and vinegar.” A soap spokeswoman told The Sun that it was “pure coincidence” that Liz’s name was mentioned.
