TV veteran Stephanie Cole – who has previously starred in dramas such as ‘Doc Martin’ and comedy series ‘Waiting For God’ – will join the ITV1 soap as Sylvie Cropper, the outspoken mother of the shy cafe owner. As soon as the character arrives on the cobbles to stay with Roy (David Neilson) and his transsexual wife Hayley (Julie Hesmondhalgh), she will make her presence known among the street’s residents. She may well end up being the new Blanche! Being so close to Roy and Hayley – who legally became husband and wife earlier in the year – is a “privilege” for the actress, as she describes herself as a “huge fan” of the couple Stephanie told Coronation Street’s official website: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining.
