Roy Cropper’s mum will make her ‘Coronation Street’ debut early in 2011.
TV veteran Stephanie Cole – who has previously starred in dramas such as ‘Doc Martin’ and comedy series ‘Waiting For God’ – will join the ITV1 soap as Sylvie Cropper, the outspoken mother of the shy cafe owner.
As soon as the character arrives on the cobbles to stay with Roy (David Neilson) and his transsexual wife Hayley (Julie Hesmondhalgh), she will make her presence known among the street’s residents. She may well end up being the new Blanche!
Being so close to Roy and Hayley – who legally became husband and wife earlier in the year – is a “privilege” for the actress, as she describes herself as a “huge fan” of the couple
Stephanie told Coronation Street’s official website: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining. In any great drama, be it on television or on the stage the writing comes first, and Coronation Street is brilliantly written.
“I am a huge Roy and Hayley fan, so to be joining their family on screen is a privilege for me and I can’t wait to get started.”
The actress will officially join the cast in early 2011, with Sylvie Cropper first seen on screen in March.
