American Idol: Results Show Gets Highest Thursday Ratings Since 2007

Last week on American Idol on FOX we watched the first live results show of season ten as the top ten finalists were revealed and the judges filled three wild card spots. And after the ratings came in, it is safe to say that the show is no danger since the departure of Simon Cowell as the show put up the highest ratings for a non sports event on Thursday since 2007! Keep reading for all the details!

That’s right for all your skeptics out there, American Idol raked in 25 million viewers to win the ratings Thurdsay night, but also gave Fox the most-watched non-sports Thursday night number of any network in four years – since 2007 to be exact. The ratings broke down on Thursday with an 8.1 rating in the 18 to 49 demo, numbers were also up 13 percent over last Thursday’s American Idol episode. The ratings climbed during the final half-hour of the broadcast, going from 25.96 million between 9 and 9:30 p.m. to 26.66 million for the final half-hour.

According to Billboard, the season’s first elimination episode gave a 29 percent increase from last season’s first elimination night – take that Simon Cowell! The stellar numbers will hopefully carry through from here on out and I am guessing that this week’s elimination will be just as good since we will also be getting an acoustic performance by season eight runner up and pop superstar Adam Lambert.

Be sure to tune in next week at 8 pm EST on Wednesday to see the top 13 perform on Fox and then on Thursday at 8 pm EST to see Adam’s performance!
