Recently American rock band the Foo Fighters agreed to play at a gig that they hadn’t even arranged thanks to the actions of a group of determined fans.

Some diehard rock lovers in Richmond, Virginia worked together to organise a show in the hope that the band would turn up and play in the region for the first time in 15 years.

The gig, which eventually sold 1,400 tickets through a crowd-sourcing model, is all set to go ahead after the Foo Fighters eventually gave it their approval and added the date to their diaries.

However the whole idea and the gig came as a bit of a surprise to the band they have since revealed.

Frontman Dave Grohl loves the whole idea and structure and in an interview with 5FM confessed:

“I’m telling you, it could become the way that bands decide where they want to play. It’s a fun thing; it sort of changes the game.”

The legendary rocker explained that for 20 years now they’ve decided where to play and who for, however they’re keen to see where the demand now lies and love this new tactic. That’s not to say that all other artists will respond similarly.

The Foo Fighters have been hard at work on their eighth studio album which as of yet is still untitled. However while their eighth album isn’t yet released the band have already spoken about working on their ninth. That’s some epic planning!

Ahead of the album’s launch a special eight-part documentary will air on HBO which will show the recording process involved with the Foo Fighters latest album.
