Microsoft has enlisted two cast members from History’s high-rated series Pawn Stars for its “Scroogled” ad campaign, in which it tries to convince people that Google’s products are bad—because of course, people already know Microsoft products suck.
In the 30-second ad (there’s a longer version, too, which is below), Rick Harrison talks to an actor trying to sell a Chromebook (she wants a ticket to Hollywood; perhaps she should audition for American Idol?). Rick tells her the computer doesn’t work offline or have built-in applications, which he says “means it’s not a real laptop. It doesn’t have Windows or Office.” He repeats that it’s not a “real laptop” later, too.
That’s, you know, bullshit, and Techcrunch points out that “as far as Scroogled videos go, this one is at least somewhat funny, even if it’s got a few too many factual errors to be taken seriously.”
