We’re not sure how it’s possible, but it’s always been a full decade since the five guys of Queer Eye entered the world of reality television. Last night, they joined Andy Cohen for a much-anticipated reunion. What did fashion expert and Dancing With The Stars alum Carson Kressley have to say about his impact on homosexuality and the media?

Ten years after his debut on reality TV, Carson Kressley remains the best known of all the Queer Eye cast members. In other words, he’s the Elton John of the show. But when he first entered the realm of reality television, the fashion guru certainly didn’t expect to revolutionize the small screen. He admits, “All I wanted to do was get rid of mullets and pleated khakis. We never had a political agenda.”

And yet, through their goofy humor and continued grooming efforts, Carson and his cohorts managed to diffuse much of the homophobia still gripping the nation in 2003. Chatting with Entertainment Weekly shortly before the big reunion, Carson explained that all viewers needed was some sort of indication that gays and straights weren’t so different after all. “We’re more the same than we are different, and that helps to change peoples’ attitudes, and that helps to erase homophobia. We didn’t realize that when it was happening. We just wanted to make a good TV show.”

Despite their impact on the entertainment industry, the five fine fellows of Queer Eye hold no illusions about returning to reality TV. While they’re happy to get together for the occasional reunion, their schedules are far too packed to allow for additional filming. Too bad!
