The Great British Bake Off final is set to air this evening and it’s going to be a tense and dramatic affair, if comments from one of the finalists are to be believed.

Ruby Tandoh has made it all the way through to the final three and having won the ‘star baker’ accolade three times already in the current series – more than anyone else in the competition this year – she is being tipped as the favourite to take the crown this evening.

However, the 21 year old model – who has had a number of emotional breakdowns already on screen – has admitted that she is planning to get drunk while watching the episode tonight, admitting that it was a ‘painful’ experience for her.

The University College London student added:

“I need to be inebriated before I watch it.

“They (my friends) are loving it because obviously they like to tell me I am embarrassing on a daily basis, so this is plenty of ammunition for them.”

The show has become the most watched on BBC Two this year and for it’s 2014 run it is set to move to BBC One, to make the most of it’s growing audience.

The fourth series has peaked already at 5.6 million and it’s thought that up to 10 million people will be watching Ruby and her fellow finalists in a baking frenzy tonight.

Raymond Blanc has managed to get himself embroiled in a bit of a furore surrounding the show and after tweeting that Ruby, 21, was too thin to really be able to good cakes, he then appeared to tweet that she has won the series.

He posted:

“the great British bake off.
Not much skills, female tears ,
And a winner so thin who makes me doubt of her love for great cooking, baking”

He later backtracked and apologised, adding:

“Ok, sorry guys, I was a grumpy Frenchman this morning. I don’t know who has won #GBBO, but can’t wait to find out…”

Ruby wasn’t taking the slight lying down and replied to the celebrity chef, posting:

“@raymond_blanc ‘female tears’?! and what has anyone’s size got to do with it? i don’t care if you’re a patisserie king – don’t be an idiot”

Judge Paul Hollywood also tweeted Raymond, saying:

“wow Raymond have you seen the winner already ???”

Blanc responded:

“@PaulHollywood @tamaraward07 Apologies if I upset people this morning. I would like to congratulate you on a show. Best Rb xx”

The show was filmed in June, however a Great British Bake Off source told The Mirror that Raymond hasn’t seen the episode yet. They explained:

“He’s not seen the final at all and has no idea who wins. I can only assume that he got out the wrong side of the bed this morning.”

Ruby Tandoh

Tandoh has been earmarked for victory for weeks but it seems that Raymond could be backing the wrong horse, as bookmaker Coral confirmed yesterday that they were suspending betting on the outcome after a flurry of bets for clothes designer Frances Quinn.

Coral’s David Stevens said: “After the semi-final we favoured star baker Kimberley to rise to the occasion in the final, while Ruby may be Paul Hollywood’s favourite. But as far as punters were concerned it was all about Frances, with more than 90% of the bets for her.

“Because the show is pre-recorded, we always knew someone somewhere would know who has won, so we took only small stakes, and kept a close eye on the bets coming in.”

The final three

The final of The Great British Bake Off is on BBC2 at 8pm.
