The new season of Dancing With The Stars premiered last night and Valerie Harper received a standing ovation. However, despite the kind comments from the judges, Harper’s partner, Tristan MacManus revealed that he would be perfectly fine if they were a little more constructive with Harper and himself!

Of course the judges on Dancing With The Stars were going to be kind to Valerie Harper, who has been battling terminal cancer for months now, and shouldn’t even be alive according to her doctors…how can you not be kind? She is definitely inspirational to all of us watching, and the crowd gave her a standing ovation last night for her courage. After her performance, her partner, Tristan MacManus walked away from her, and into the crowd to join them as they gave the actress a huge applause.

However, Tristan MacManus, who was thrilled with how well their routine went last night, also feels that the judges need to put Harper’s condition out of their minds, and make sure to be constructive after their routines. “I think they actually could have been more critical. If I’m given a particular critique I know I can work on that much more. I think their comments (to Valerie) were respectful because she was respectful,” MacManus dished to Today.

As for MacManus’ goal for Harper, it is to get the best possible experience out of being on the show that she possibly can. “I’ve had people in my family who’ve died from cancer. That plays in my head. But, I can’t afford to treat Valerie like a cancer victim. She deserves to be here on the show. I treat her like a person who’s here to dance,” Tristan concluded.

What did you think of the premiere of Dancing With The Stars? What did you think of Harper’s emotional performance? Who did you think was the best last night? Who are you rooting for? We know you have an opinion and we want to hear it. Comment below to share your thoughts with us!
