Probst says Colton quit Survivor One World; Housewives star encourages marital rape

Awful Survivor cast member Colton Cumbie was medically evacuated his first season on the show, but Jeff Probst now says that Colton “engineered his own quit” last time. That’s what he appears to be doing in the preview for next week’s episode, and a new preview offers more of a hint as to what will happen. Also, frustratingly, while Probst insists Colton is “compelling,” he also said, “I could have done the season without him but that’s often the case when it comes to casting. We don’t all always agree on who should be on the show.”Real Housewives of New Jersey cast member Melissa Gorga has a new book, Love Italian Style: The Secrets of My Hot and Happy Marriage, and based on the highly disturbing excerpts highlighted by Jezebel, it’s beyond sexist and misogynistic. Besides the sickening attitudes she and her husband (Joe, Teresa Giudice’s brother) have about what constitutes a healthy relationship, Melissa actually endorses what is basically marital rape: “Men, I know you think your woman isn’t the type who wants to be taken. But trust me, she is. Every girl wants to get her hair pulled once in a while. If your wife says ‘no,’ turn her around, and rip her clothes off. She wants to be dominated.” For what it’s worth, Melissa says criticism of her book is a result of taking things “completely out of context simply for shock value.”Caroline Manzo is leaving The Real Housewives of New Jersey after five seasons, but is now taping a pilot for a potential spin-off about her family.Real Housewives of Orange County cast members Gretchn Rossi and Alexis Bellino aren’t returning for the show’s ninth season.Radar excerpts part of the cast contract for The Real Housewives of New Jersey, and finds that, like other cast contracts, it includes producers’ ability “to edit, delete, dub and fictionalize the Footage and Materials, the Program and the Advertisements as Producer sees fit in Producer’s sole discretion.”Amazing Race winners the Beekman Boys have responded to homophobic comments from Barilla pasta’s chairman by updating their online store with “Welcome ex-Barilla eaters!”, which links to their pasta sauces. Guido Barilla said this week that he’d never include gay people in his ads and that if gays don’t like it, they can eat another pasta. (The immediate outcry and boycott prompted him to issue a sexist apology.)Milky Way Mission is a new Dutch show that will send its celebrity winner into space. The format may eventually be sold to other countries. Why have three of four broadcast reality executives left this summer? Lacey Rose’s analysis looks at costs and how “the networks have failed to generate a new unscripted hit in years despite tens of millions of dollars spent.”NBC Universal executive Lauren Zalaznick, who basically built Bravo, is leaving the company after 12 years; Variety says her “departure is no surprise, after losing her cable turf earlier this year when [NBCU’s Steve] Burke decided to consolidate NBCU’s channels under Bonnie Hammer.”
