The best news of the day is that New Girl is set to return to FOX this evening with its season three premiere.

As happens with quite a few premiere episodes, we basically know most of what is going to happen thanks to the likes of Comic-Con, the TCA Press Tour, interviews with the cast and of course, trailers released by the network. What we know about tonight’s premiere episode of New Girl is that it kicks off right where season 2 left off.

Of course, season 2 left off right after Cece’s failed wedding and there’s the aftermath of that to deal with. Not only that, Nick and Jess headed out for a romantic trip to Mexico to cement their love for one another. However, it doesn’t quite go to plan.

As Nick and Jess drive across the border to Mexico, Nick has forgotten his passport and he ends up trying to do a runner across a beach. In one of the promo videos that has been released, we see a group of police offers dragging him out of the sea and hauling him into “resort prison”.

Jess makes her way back to the loft where Winston and Schmidt are waiting as they’ve nothing better to do with their day. Jess tells them that she needs Nick’s passport and all the money they have to bail Nick out of prison.

Winston and Schmidt go back to Mexico with Jess to offer their support, but Winston ends up getting tazered by a security guard, which doesn’t go down too well. Upon arriving at the resort, Jess is ready to bail Nick out of prison, but she soon discovers that Nick is loving his time in “resort prison” as he can do whatever he likes, apart from go to the loo on his own.

Aside from Nick and Jess’ failed getaway, Schmidt also has something to deal with on tonight’s premiere episode. At Cece’s wedding, Schmidt was asked to choose between either Cece or Elizabeth, but he couldn’t do it… he literally ran away from the situation. However, he has to deal with it on tonight’s show – in his own way. He tells both Cece and Elizbeth on separate occasions that he wants to be with them both. When the pair find out, they confront him and tell him he needs to make his mind up.

We know that Merritt Wever who plays the role of Elizabeth will be around for a couple of episodes, so we don’t expect a decision to be made on tonight’s episode, but he has to choose between them. As Elizabeth is leaving the sitcom, is that an indication that he will opt to be with Cece? They both had a weird sex-fueled relationship to begin with.

New Girl returns to FOX this evening at 9/8c.
