The Voice judge Usher nearly faced a parent’s worst nightmare the other day, when his beloved son Usher Raymond V found himself in a close brush with death at a pool in Atlanta. What happened?

We all know that, as fun as they are, pools can be incredibly dangerous for children who are not closely supervised. But sometimes, it takes a tragic reminder highlighted in the media to remind us to keep an eye on our kids. Fortunately, Usher Raymond V’s pool accident did not turn him into a statistic. The five-year-old son of Usher fell to the bottom of an Atlanta pool and found himself stuck in the drain. A housekeeper was unable to pull Usher Raymond V from the drain on her own, but eventually, with the help of two contractors, he was able to get free.

By the time little Usher had been freed from the pool’s drain, he was in need of emergency care. One of the contractors gave him CPR and, thanks to his efforts, the boy was “conscious, alert and breathing” by the time paramedics arrived on the scene. Had these contractors not been around to free Usher’s son and administer CPR, who knows how quickly the accident could have turned into a tragedy.

Although a death in the family would have been awful enough for Usher, it could have been particularly devastating in light of family circumstances. Usher Raymond V’s close call comes just over a year after his step-brother died in a boating accident.  Run over by a personal watercraft in a lake near Atlanta, the eleven-year-old Kile Glover still weighs heavily on the minds of both Usher and his ex (and Kile’s mother) Tameka Foster.

We’re so glad that Usher Raymond V is safe — and we hope he stays that way!
