Dexter showrunner, Scott Buck has just signed a new two-year deal with Showtime in which he will work on a “number of new projects”.

The news was announced by Showtime’s Entertainment president David Nevins at yesterday’s Television Critics Association press tour panel.

He said: “For the last seven seasons, Scott has helped shepherd Dexter, the most valuable and lucrative franchise we have ever had. We really wanted to remain in business with Scott, and we are looking forward to getting to work with him on a number of new projects. I’m incredibly excited to see what he has up his sleeve”.

On the note of Dexter being one of the most “valuable and lucrative franchise” deals the network has ever had, it doesn’t look like they’re letting the show end that easily.

Over the last year or so there has been a lot of speculation about a Dexter spin-off being in the works, but nothing has ever been confirmed, it has always been brushed under the carpet or joked about.

But, Nevins teased at the press tour that there could indeed be a spin-off in the works, with Buck being signed up for another two years at the very least, it only adds fuel to the already burning fire.

Nevins said: “Of course. We just signed a deal with Scott Buck… draw your own conclusions”.

So, it seems like a spin-off is very much on the cards and for a show as successful as Dexter, it would be silly to let it die down.

Elsewhere, Buck is already developing several different projects for Showtime, including an adaptation of Matthew Specktor’s American Dream Machine, in which Dexter star Michael C. Hall is also on board to executive producer.

Dexter continues on Sunday’s on Showtime!
