In the first of a two-part series, You Saw Them Here First trawls the archives to reveal the television debuts of Britain’s best loved actors, actresses, presenters and pop stars.

Tonight’s instalment looks back at how This Morning has proved to be a hot spot for fresh new talent since 1988. Kym Marsh is seen auditioning in a This Morning singing competition in 1990 while, years later, Charlotte Church is seen signing for Richard and Judy. Most surprising of all though is that Simon Cowell made his TV judging debut as a member of a panel looking for Britain’s next boyband with the auditionees including Will Young and Blue’s Lee Ryan.

The programme also airs some of the small screen debuts of actors who went on to achieve greatness in Hollywood. These include Daniel Craig in an early episode of TV drama Boon and Judi Dench who went all Italian while playing a barmaid.

Some famous faces are also on hand to watch their TV debuts in the specially constructed ‘You Saw Them Here First’ video booth. Michelle Collins braves the booth to watch her on-screen debut as a backing singer on the 1982 David Essex Showcase. Pauline Quirke also feels the memories flooding back after she watches herself in a film, aged just 10, alongside long time co-star and friend Linda Robson. Finally, Eammon Holmes relives his time on Farming Ulster where he was the ‘go-to’ guy for all things agricultural.

You Saw Them Here First starts tonight on ITV at 8pm
