It’s been revealed today that when comedian Stephen Fry attempted suicide for a second time, he very nearly managed it, and had he not been discovered in the nick of time, would’ve died.
Stephen apparently made the attempt on his life by downing vodka and “pills” as he struggled to cope with his bi-polar disorder.
Speaking to TV Biz, troubled Stephen explained, “It was a close run thing…
“I took a huge number of pills with a large amount of vodka.
“The mixture of them made my body convulse. Fortunately, the producer I was filming with at the time came into the hotel room and I was found.”
Stephen, who was apparently abroad at the time of the suicide bid last year, then told how he was rushed back to Britain for treatment.
The paper adds, “After keeping his latest hell secret, the former Blackadder funnyman — who is president of mental health charity MIND — said he had finally decided to go ‘public’ to help others battling depression.”
He continued, “You may say, ‘How can anyone who has got it all be so stupid as to want to end it all?’
“That’s the point. There is no ‘Why?’ — it’s not the right question. There’s no reason.”
Last night, he thanked his fans for their support, writing on Twitter, “Thank you all for your concern. Now fine.
“On good meds. Love to you all x.”
How terribly sad that someone so gifted and so genuinely lovely as Stephen has so little regard for himself and his life at times…
Here’s a reminder of him on QI…
