Recently, we learned that American Idol alum, Carrie Underwood had donated $1 million to Oklahoma relief. And now, she’s planning to lend her voice to raise even more money to help those affected by the recent tornadoes in her home state. Keep reading for more details.

In the last two weeks, tornadoes have ravaged Oklahoma leaving dozens dead. And being an Oklahoma native, Underwood knows what tornado season is all about. “Tornado season is something that we’re all used to but you can never fully prepare for it.” She explains, “It takes what it wants and it knocks down what it wants and there’s nothing you can do about it except just try to be prepared.”

Although Underwood has already given $1 million toward relief efforts, she wants to do even more. So according to the Associated Press, Underwood, accompanied by two dozen choir members, will perform her new single “See You Again” during the CMT Awards on Wednesday, June 5. “I just wanted to do something special for my family and friends who’ve been putting their lives back together,” Underwood said.

The song will serve as a somber memorial for all the lives lost over the last few weeks. And during the performance, viewers will be directed as to how they can donate to the Red Cross to assist with relief efforts.

But Underwood isn’t the only one reaching out to help. Other country music stars have also stepped forward in support of Oklahoma. Blake Shelton hosted a televised telethon, and Toby Keith, Ronnie Dunn and others are planning a benefit concert for later in the summer.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to those in Oklahoma.
