American Idol alum, Colton Dixon caused some controversy last season over his strong religious beliefs, which he refused to tone down even at the advice of the producers. Colton Dixon finished in seventh place, shocking fans, but he vowed not to let them down. Today, Dixon’s debut album  has been released! Details inside…

American Idol fans were shocked last season, when Colton Dixon was eliminated and finished in seventh place. Some folks may blame it on his strong religious beliefs, but Dixon was not willing to stop sharing those beliefs for the sake of possibly winning the show. Now, as the show has kicked off season 12, Colton has released his debut album, A Messenger.

The album, which is a contemporary Christian album, has already had two tracks hit the Christian charts. His debut single, You Are was released on October 19, 2012, and has been climbing the charts. In an interview with Billboard, Dixon admitted that he has a tough time choosing between tracks to release, explaining: “There are so many favorites on the record. Someone asked me to pick one and I winded up picking six. I just can’t stop naming them. There are a lot of good ones to choose from.”

With that said, Dixon also revealed that the toughest part of the album for him was choosing 11 or 12 songs out of the nearly 50 that he has written. Colton concluded of his debut album: “I’m very, very proud of this. So I’m excited for everyone to hear it.”
