Steven Tyler has quit American Idol, Fox confirmed today. Jennifer Lopez has all but quit, too, leaving just Randy Jackson, if they decide to keep him. In a statement released by the network, Steven said,
āAfter some longā¦hardā¦thoughtsā¦Iāve decided itās time for me to let go of my mistress American Idol before she boils my rabbit. I strayed from my first love, AEROSMITH, and Iām back ā but instead of begging on my hands and knees, Iāve got two fists in the air and Iām kicking the door open with my band. The next few years are going to be dedicated to kicking some serious ass ā the ultimate in auditory takeoverā¦On Nov. 6, we are unleashing our new album, Music from Another Dimension on the Earth, Moon, Mars, and way beyond the starsā¦IDOL was over-the-top fun, and I loved every minute of itā¦Now itās time to bring Rock Back. ERMAHGERD.ā
Fox reality executive Mike Darnell called Steven āa terrific judge, a true friend and great mentor to everyone involved with the show, and we know heāll continue to be a huge inspiration to Idol hopefuls for years to come.ā
Letās not get carried away here.
Meanwhile, Jennifer Lopez got as close as possible to quitting without formally quitting. On the Today Show this morning, she said, āI know everybody wants that definite āyesā or āno,ā and ⦠all I can let you in on is my own thought process with it, because thatās where I truly am. And the truth is, I love everybody. I love all the guys on the show. I love the family thatās there. Like I said, Iāve just enjoyed it so much. But I am thinking that maybe itās time for me to go and do other things that I really love to do.ā
Bye bye, J Lo.
