TLC cancels All-American Muslim

All-American Muslim, the docudrama that followed several Muslim families in Dearborn, Mich., has been cancelled by TLC.

The Detroit Free Press reports on the cancellation, which the show’s cast recently learned about. “Cast members said they were told by TLC the show didn’t get high enough ratings to continue, but some said they are skeptical of that claim since the show’s ratings were equal to those of many other shows,” the paper reported.

But the show’s ratings decreased over time, and after five episodes, it was the 78th most-watched Sunday night cable show. Most likely, the show was not insane or exploitative enough to draw the kind of ratings that TLC’s usual freak show parade usually does.

While it set out to explore and show the diversity of people and families who share a faith unfamiliar to many people, All-American Muslim will be perhaps most notable for outing Lowe’s as a company willing to kowtow to stupid bigots, which the company continued to do.
