MTV today confirmed that the 27th season of the first modern reality TV show will be filmed in the Virgin Islands and be called The Real World: St. Thomas. The network noted that because it’s a U.S. territory, the production costs benefit the economy even though it’s being filmed in the Caribbean.
Word that the production has selected St. Thomas leaked recently, dashing the hopes of people in places like Pittsburgh, which thought the show would be coming there even though there was no evidence (and the show probably will never go there).
The press release mentioned a “custom decorated home” but didn’t say that it’s actually located on an island off the mainland. The cast will venture away from their secluded home to visit St. Croix, St. John, and Water Island.
Co-creator and executive producer Jon Murray called St. Thomas “the perfect environment for this year’s seven strangers to get to know each other and figure out their lives,” while the press release promised they’d “work hard and play harder.” Of course, they’ll only work really hard at trying to punch and penetrate each other.
