MTV today confirmed that the 27th season of the first modern reality TV show will be filmed in the Virgin Islands and be called The Real World: St. Thomas. The network noted that because itās a U.S. territory, the production costs benefit the economy even though itās being filmed in the Caribbean.
Word that the production has selected St. Thomas leaked recently, dashing the hopes of people in places like Pittsburgh, which thought the show would be coming there even though there was no evidence (and the show probably will never go there).
The press release mentioned a ācustom decorated homeā but didnāt say that itās actually located on an island off the mainland. The cast will venture away from their secluded home to visit St. Croix, St. John, and Water Island.
Co-creator and executive producer Jon Murray called St. Thomas āthe perfect environment for this yearās seven strangers to get to know each other and figure out their lives,ā while the press release promised theyād āwork hard and play harder.ā Of course, theyāll only work really hard at trying to punch and penetrate each other.
