39 year old actor Ben Richards, who starred in The Bill and Footballers’ Wives, has vowed that he’ll be cancer free in six months.

Ben broke the news that he has cancer – though he hasn’t revealed which type – via Twitter, where, he wrote, “After getting scariest news yesterday, I have to now postpone my LA adventure for at least six months.

“I was born a fighter and will fight this.”

He later added, “Great meeting with oncologist today, lovely guy, v positive, I was terrified he’d give me bad news.”

Ben and his wife Helen have already had more than their fair share of tragedy, having lost four babies due to a rare condition which causes stillbirth.

When Ben broke the news of his diagnosis, he said Helen is the “rock by my side” before adding, “Yep, time to battle the big C…

“Prognosis is good gang and should kick this into touch in about six months, well this should be a different journey.”

Back in 2008 Ben spoke to Hello Magazine about the tragic loss of the couple’s babies.

He said, “We’ve had a terrible time, but I’ve had incredible support. We’re in limbo as far as having a family goes.

“Hopefully in the future it’s something we can do, there are different options to look at.”

Of Ben’s cancer diagnosis, Helen tweeted, “could life be any crueller right now?”

You really would have to wonder just how much suffering people can cope with wouldn’t you?

Very best wishes from us all to you Ben, and to you Helen.
