Natalie Cassidy, who of course played the role of Sonia Fowler in EastEnders, has told new! magazine that she believes her former fiancé, Adam Cottrell, “needs to get help.”

Natalie was speaking with the magazine ahead of going into this year’s Celebrity Big Brother house – which launches on January 5th on Channel 5 – and during the interview, she revealed that she blames Cottrell’s alcohol abuse for much of what’s gone so badly wrong in his life.

He and Natalie have a daughter, Eliza, who is just 15 months old, and just a week before she gave the interview to new! Natalie publicly praised Adam for “kicking the booze” and she revealed that she had lifted the restraining order that prohibited him from seeing Eliza unsupervised.

However, just days later, Cottrell was arrested on suspicion of burglary, having allegedly been found in the garden of an elderly couple, whose window had been smashed…

New! magazine’s Ellie Piovesana asked Natalie how she was feeling in the wake of the new allegations, to which she replied, “It’s been a heartbreaking couple of days. I’m deeply disappointed. I feel deeply let down.”

And when asked if she’s “worried about him,” Natalie said, “Adam is ill. He’s scared himself and he knows he’s got to go and get proper help.

”It’s pretty damn frightening how one week to the next can change so much. Things had been very positive. He was doing really well.

“He’s had a glitch. It’s hard for people to understand. It’s hard for me to understand.

And of lifting the restrictions on Adam seeing Eliza, Natalie said, “I don’t regret it at all. It was the right thing to do at the time.”

However, she added that in light of Cottrell’s recent behaviour, she may once again insist he sees his daughter only with supervision.

She said, “It’s very hard, but because of what’s happened, I can’t trust him 100 per cent with Eliza.

“It breaks my heart to say that because he’s an amazing dad. But he can’t see her on his own at the moment.

”It isn’t about me and him any more, it’s about Eliza. I care and worry for her. It doesn’t matter about me and him. I’m not interested, it’s not in my mindset.

“I’d just love him to go away, get better and be a good dad. If he doesn’t do that then he won’t be a dad, so it’s up to him.”
