Next Great Baker Recap: Holiday Cakes Bring Drama And A Hospital Trip

Last week on Next Great Baker on TLC the bakers had to tackle wedding cakes, and in the spirit of the season, they took on Holiday cakes tonight! But when tempers flared up, would it destroy one team’s chance of winning? Read on for all the highlights of tonight’s episode!

Next Great Baker was back this week with a visit from Santa – aka Danny, a baker from Carlo’s bakery. Santa was looking pretty ticked off as he told the bakers to get ready for Buddy. Then it was time for their challenge, in which they had to create their best Holiday dessert. All the bakers did well in this challenge as Buddy said it was their best to date! When it was time to judge the challenge, Buddy was joined by his cousin, Anthony, also from Carlo’s. The top three in the challenge were Chad, with his German chocolate cake; Heather G, with her pumpkin spice cake; and Wesley with his peach cobbler. While all three had great desserts, Chad’s German chocolate cake was Buddy’s favorite.

For ranking in the top three, Chad, Wesley, and Heather G. were all given the leader spots for the next challenge. Then they were asked to choose their teams, and Chad chose Megan and Marissa. Wesley chose Melo and Ryan, while Heather G. chose Heather and Nadine, leaving Minerva the last person standing without a team. Buddy then told Minerva that it was her lucky day – she would chose the team she wanted to join, and that she would also be taking over the leader spot of the team she chose! Minerva chose to join Heather G. and her team, much to their dismay.

Next on Next Great Baker, it was time for the elimination challenge, in which Buddy brought in his family to detail what they loved about Christmas. Then the bakers were asked to create a Christmas cake that would impress his family. Just when you thought the holidays would bring the joy out in these folks, it did the opposite. When Heather, Nadine, and Heather G. did agree with the way Minerva made her snowmen, Minerva blew up on them, pushing Heather G., as she got very verbal with Heather. The next day, Minerva was no where to be found, but then she showed up and told her team she was heading to the hospital for a dizzy spell – or was it just guilt?

With Minerva gone, the ladies were able to focus on their cake, which was a tower of presents. Melo and his team did a Santa cake, with a chimney and a bag of presents – it looked amazing. Meanwhile, Chad’s team did a snowman cake, but they struggled, as Marissa could not get the bows down for her presents. The snowman cake was cute, and it did have some neat details, such as an ice skating penguin! When it was time to judge the cakes, the teams had to deliver them to an ice skating rink, in the middle of the ice! Luckily, no one fell and all the cakes made it to the tables safely.

Buddy Valastro, along with his wife and sister were judging the cakes this week, and they all thought that Heather G. and her team did the best cake, because of all the details on the presents. Minerva just so happened to show up at elimination, and though his wife and sister did not agree with him, Buddy allowed Minvera to continue on in the competition. Buddy then said that the other two cakes tied, as they were both good, but he chose to send Wesley home as he did not feel he had the experience that Next Great Baker needed.
