Fresh Meat stars Jack Whitehall and James Buckley have both hit out at the BBC’s decision to axe long running show, Shooting Stars, while their co-star Zawe Ashton has revealed that he’d be “excited” by a movie spin-off of the show.
Beginning with what Jack and James had to say over the BBC ditching Shooting Stars, Jack began by telling the Sun, “I’m really upset, I love that show.
“I’m really annoyed shows like that don’t get more commitment”.
And The Inbetweeners star Simon Bird also waded in with his view about the show being axed, saying, “Shooting Stars was one of my favourite shows when I was growing up and it’s been brilliant since it came back.”
James Buckley, who was once a guest on Shooting Stars added, “It’s the only panel show I’ve ever done…
“I love Vic and Bob and I wanted to be a part of it. BBC, what are you doing?”
What indeed, however, in other news from the Fresh Meat camp, star Zawe Ashton has told Metro that he’d love it if the show became a movie spin-off, just like The Inbetweeners did this year.
He said, “Well we don’t really do university or college movies here so in terms of it being a first I think it would be exciting.”
However, he conceded that for now, he and his co-stars are just happy that Fresh Meat has been so well received by its audience.
He said, “I think we’re just so enjoying the fact that this has been a surprise runaway success.
“I’m not wanting to cram my stocking too full just yet. I’m just happy to see where it just goes, and happy to just get the gang back together really.”
Channel 4 recently announced that they were re-commissioning Fresh Meat for a second series since it attracted such high viewing figures.
We will of course get to see that new series next year.
In the meantime, here’s a clip from the show…
