Emmerdale: Will Ashley Thomas ditch Laurel at their wedding vow renewal?!

Home > Drama > Emmerdale: Will Ashley Thomas ditch Laurel at their wedding vow renewal?!

December 9th, 2011 by Sarah. No comments

As fans of Emmerdale will know, Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) has been in love with pub chef Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) since the summer, and until recently, she’d managed to keep her feelings for Marlon a secret from her husband…

But now, her husband Ashley (John Middleton) knows that Laurel’s in love with another man, and in the episode that airs on December 22nd, he faces a terrible dilemma; renew his vows to Laurel and try to make their marriage work, or let her go to Marlon.

As we’ll see on the day of the vow renewal ceremony, when Ashley’s late, and nobody seems to know where he is, Laurel fears that he’s not going to turn up, while Marlon is hoping that he won’t!

And by the time the day of the ceremony rolls around, Marlon’s ex and his best mate – that’s Rhona (Zoe Henry) and Paddy (Dominic Brunt) of course – have guessed that Laurel is Marlon’s married woman…

So when Marlon turns up at the church, torn as to whether to once again beg Laurel to go with him, Rhona is herself torn as to where her loyalties should lie – to her friend Ashley or her closer friend Marlon.

Of the plotline, Mark Charnock told All About Soap how Marlon handles the big day.

He said, “He’s in bits. He goes to call Laurel, but he knows he mustn’t. He just spends the day on his Xbox.

“Of course, Paddy and Rhona have worked it out and they confront him – and that’s when Marlon breaks down and confesses all his feelings.

“Rhona goes to the ceremony but comes back and says Ashley is late, and there’s a moment when Marlon thinks it’s his last chance – he’s got to take it…

“So he’s got to decide whether to rescue Laurel from a situation she doesn’t want to be in, and rescue himself from potentially a lifetime of regret.”

But if Ashley doesn’t show, the decision will of course have been made for them, and when asked if Marlon could live with himself if he did break up Ashley and Laurel’s marriage, Mark replied, “I think he could, actually. It would be difficult, but he loves Laurel so much that he would find a way to deal with it.

“But we’ll just have to wait and see what happens!”

As I mentioned, we’ll see the events of the ceremony on Thursday, December 22 at 7pm and 8pm on ITV1, but which way do you want it to go?

Would you like to see Laurel follow her heart and go to Marlon? Or should she stay with Ashley for the sake of their children and try to make a go of things?

Let us know!

Personally, I’m kinda hoping she chooses Marlon. It’d be interesting to see how different her life would be without Ashley!

How to make: A fashionable cake

The Stella McCartney ‘fruit print’ has become one of the most iconic patterns for the season, with high street brands such as Zara following suit. However, the look can be fairly difficult to pull off unless you’re a stick thin model, so we’ve found a way to get your fashion fix and your hunger fix for a fraction of the cost of a real Stella.
