The heat is on during tonight’s reality TV chef competition, Top Chef: Texas where the remaining chefs try to win a coveted slot in the final 16. Who makes it and who is told to pack up their knives? Keep reading to find out who will be competing this season!

For the first time ever, 29 chefs vied to win a slot in the Top Chef competition on Bravo. That’s almost double the amount of the chefs in past seasons.

Season nine of Top Chef has a couple of twists. First, the contest takes place all over the state of Texas with host Padma Lakshmi and judges Tom Colicchio, Hugh Acheson, Emeril Lagasse and Gail Simmons. Last week, a few chefs were selected to compete including: Dakota Weiss, Chuy Valencia, Heather Terhune, Keith Rhodes, Whitney Otawka, Sarah Grueneberg, Chris Jones, Richie Farina, Chris Crary, Ty-Lor Boring and Nyesha Arrington.

Tonight, the remaining chefs had the opportunity to cook for the judges and show what they’ve got. After getting their ingredients and finding out what their “main” ingredient was they did their best to impress the judges. In the end, the judges gave Top Chef coats to Lindsay Autry, Beverly Kim and Paul Qui.

As for the chef’s that didn’t wow the judges but looked as though they have potential, they were given a second opportunity to cook for the judges. Back in the kitchen, the chefs had the luxury to choose whatever ingredients they need to make whatever they want. The remaining six who still have a shot at getting a Top Chef coat begin to prepare their dishes as they work to beat the clock.

Emeril joins Padma, Tom, and Hugh to taste the dishes prepared by the final six hopefuls. After hearing what each chef prepared and tasting it they deliberate and decide on the final two to compete in the competition. The chefs line up in front of the judges to hear the results. Edward Lee and Grayson Schmitz are selected to wear Top Chef coats and will continue on in the cooking competition.

There will also be another contestant who will be competing for the prizes–$125,000 and the title of ‘Top Chef.’ All of the eliminated contestants will be paired off and the winner will continue to advance and enter the main competition.
