Nigel Havers is of course famed for playing well spoken and charming ladies’ man roles, and his latest role in Downton Abbey is no different.
He’ll play the role of Lord Hepworth in the show’s Christmas special episode, who is expected to become a love interest for one of the Crawley family’s spinsters.
Could Edith be about to fall off the shelf for the suave aristocrat? Or maybe Lady Mary will ditch both Richard and Matthew for him?
Time will tell, but of his role in Downton, Nigel was secretive in a recent interview with The Telegraph.
He said, “Oh God, it’s all so secretive that I’m not sure I can say…
“Did you know they write our name on the front of our scripts, so if they find one lying around on a table, they can collar the culprit and give them a good scolding?”
But when pressed further, Nigel added, “Well, at one point I wear black tie, there are candles and, yes, there is indeed wooing. I’ve been shooting a lot with Maggie Smith…”
Ooo! So maybe the Dowager Duchess is about to have her grounds roamed?
Well, certainly as Lewis Archer in Coronation Street, Nigel played the part of a gigolo who likes to rip off old ladies, so maybe Lord Hepworth will prove to be the same.
And just FYI, Nigel revealed recently that he’s headed back to Weatherfield as Lewis in the New Year, but while appearing on the Alan Titchmarsh show, he wouldn’t commit as to how long the rogue would stay on the Street.
But Nigel hasn’t always played the role of underhanded cads, and shot to fame playing the role of a doctor in sitcom Don’t Wait Up.
And of course Nigel – whose father Baron Michael Havers prosecuted Peter Sutcliffe, the Yorkshire Ripper – took part in I’m A Celebrity last year.
Let’s take a look at Nigel in action…
