It’s been reported today that despite having undertaken a stint in the jungle for this year’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! Antony Cotton isn’t quitting Corrie! Phew!

Antony, who of course plays Sean Tully, apparently asked for – and got – a clause written into his latest contract with Corrie that would enable him to take on other projects in addition to his work on the Street.

So he’s now in Australia and getting ready to face his fears in the jungle, which include claustrophobia and a fear of bugs, snakes and anything creepy crawly.

But he has reportedly had hypnotherapy recently to help him overcome his fears, but he reckons actually living with and confronting those things in the jungle will be the ultimate cure…

And whilst the cognitive behavioural technique known as ‘flooding’ has proven very successful for some, for others, they have to go through a good deal of anxiety and trauma before the technique has the desired effect.

However, getting back to Antony confirming he’s not leaving Corrie, he told The Sun, “Coronation Street is very special and I love being in the soap. I would never have done this without the blessing of Corrie.

“They have allowed this to happen. I have a lovely house and job and I am really happy. If anything else happens, then that is a bonus.”

But it seems that his time away from Weatherfield may mean that he misses his co-star Katherine Kelly filming her exit as Becky McDonald, and he may also miss the return of former Corrie stars for Betty Williams’ (Betty Driver) funeral scenes.

Of that, Antony said, “Katherine is filming her last scene and then having her leaving do. I am sad I won’t be there for that.

“They are also going to plan a send-off for Betty. I am keeping everything crossed I will be there for that.”

I’m A Celebrity debuts on Sunday at 9pm on ITV1.
