The competition is getting hot on NBC’s singing competition, The Sing-Off. Tonight the second bracket comprising of six all vocal groups took the stage to sing current radio hits and 1960's classic. Keep reading to find out which groups stay and which group goes!
The reality singing show showcases a variety of groups all vying for a $200,000 prize and a Sony Music recording contract. Host, Nick Lachey announced that the remaining six groups from the second bracket sing two songs tonight, a current radio hit and then a classic 1060's radio tune.
The three expert judges from the music industry critiquing the singers and offering advice are Ben Folds, Shawn Stockman and Sara Bareilles.
First up from Newark, D.E., the Deltones performed. They were founded in 1991 at The University of Delaware and pride themselves on their smooth tunes and motto, “friends first, singers second.” For their current radio song the group sang Lady Gaga’s hit “Edge of Glory.” The judges said the group had a solid performance and it was really good. For their 1960's song, they sang “You Can’t Hurry Love.” The judges said the group needs to continue to work at things but they’re great singers and are making great music.
Pentatonix from Arlington, Texas is a five member group that has a modern style and draws influences from several eclectic electro genres. They sang a remixed version of Ke$ha’s hit “Your Love Is My Drug.” The judges said they did a good job and have found their niche of an a cappella group with a futuristic/techno sound. For their 1960's song, the group sang “Piece of My Heart.” The judges loved the group’s performance and said they did a great job.
From Nashville, Tenn., The Collective, made up of individual singer-songwriters who came together to show there is strength in numbers sang Far East Movement’s “Rocketeer.” The judges said the group gave a good performance, are doing really well in the competition and continue to grow as they move forward. For their 1960's song, “Hold On I’m Coming.” The judges said they need to show more of what they’ve got sooner in the song, that the group is very comfortable on stage and have the ability to make the audience believe in them.
For the last 30 years, North Shore has entertained thousands of listeners on street corners in Boston, Mass. singing songs from the 1940's to today. They sang Bruno Mars’ “The Lazy Song.” The judges said the group’s chemistry is clearly defined, they all have great personalities and they made the song their own. For their 1960's song, they sang “Unchained Melody.” The judges said the group was absolutely amazing, delivered the song how it should be done and complimented each other well.
Dartmouth Aires from Hanover, N.H. is Dartmouth College’s oldest a cappella group and includes 15 fun loving, high energy guys. They sang “Animal.” The judges said their performance was awesome and that the group embodies youth and energy when they perform. For their 1960's song, the group sang “Pinball Wizard.” The judges said the group’s performance was energetic, fantastic and their transitions were great.
Sonos formed in 2006 in Los Angeles as a recording project that grew into a vocal band. They sang Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” The judges said the group really has improved and were very smart with the arrangement. For their 1960's song, the group sang “I Want You Back.” The judges said they’re interpretation of a classic was interesting but not effective.
It was time for the judges to deliberate and they decided to eliminate Sonos. Their farewell song was “It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday.”
