Comedian Ricky Gervais has apologised for using the word “mong” in a recent post of Twitter.
His use of the word outraged a number of his followers, and yesterday, fellow comedian Sean Lock criticised Ricky for using the term.
However, prior to yesterday, Ricky had refused to apologise for using the word, saying that the only people complaining were “the humourless PC brigade.”
But he then told the Daily Mirror, “I know better than anyone that sometimes it’s best to say sorry straight away.”
His apology was prompted by speaking to Nicola Clark, a mother of two disabled children, who wept during Jeremy Vine’s Radio 2 show when the debacle was discussed.
Of what Ms Clark had to say, Ricky responded that he’d been “naïve” and later thanked her for her “kind, rational and understanding words in private.”
