Treating acne is normally the right move when you have it, but not always. There are times in a person’s life when you can not treat acne just because you want to. During pregnancy is one of those times. As everyone knows, this is a delicate stage in a woman’s life and it is that phase of a woman’s life that she must take extra care of herself. If she feels the need to treat her acne, she must ensure that she equips herself with the correct information.

This should also be borne in mind by those women who may get pregnant. The following are some treatments for acne that are not good for use during pregnancy since they may be harmful to the fetus:

Hormonal Therapy which may include estrogen, flutamide or spirolactone. They are definitely not allowed, because they are harmful and could cause problems for both the mother and her child. It is best regard it as a threat.

Isotretinoin treatment is another therapy that would put a pregnant woman’s life in danger. Isotretinoin has negative effects too, especially for pregnant women and those who are breast-feeding. It could cause serious health hazards in both the mother and her unborn baby. Therefore, it is advisable that a woman who is taking Isotretinoin should be monitored by a doctor. Women who are trying to get pregnant must avoid the use of Isotretinoin, because it could trigger negative complications not only for mother but most especially for the child.

Oral tetracyclines which can consist of doxycycline, tetracycline or minocycline, may not be an option on any account, because it is injurious. It has been proven that pregnant women or those who are breast-feeding must avoid the use of this drug at all costs, because it could produce side effects that are nothing short of life-threatening to you and your child, although the most common side effect is the permanent discoloration of your teeth or / and bone issues.

Topical retinoids, such as tazarotene, adapalene and tretinoin, is another group that should be totally refused. Just like the afore-mentioned remedies, topical retinoids can be a danger to you and your baby. No matter whether you are pregnant or not, it is just not wise to take any of the drugs mentioned above.

Those women, who are pregnant and have acne, really must stay away from the heavy treatments mentioned above. Instead, why not try more traditional remedies, like tying your hair back off your face, washing your face three or four times a day, changing your pillow slips every day, eating more fruit and avoiding fatty, oily and spicy food.
