Torchwood: Blood Line: Has Gwen discovered a clue? Is that a PhiCorp logo you've discovered, Gwen?

Torchwood: Miracle Day will draw to an “explosive” finale on Friday (or next Thursday for UK residents) and the promo videos promise EVERYTHING will be revealed.

We’ve dredged through the teaser trailers, and it looks like there’s going to be plenty of shock and awe in the final. Bombs will go BOOM and necks will get broken. And hopefully we’ll get an explanation about what’s going on. One that actually makes sense. OK, that might be asking too much.

Anyway, without further waffling, and without any official synopsis, here’s what we’re inferring from the trailers we’ve seen so far:

It’s a complete mess: The trailers are shoddily put together and it’s hard to work out if one frame relates to another. For example, someone says “you’re about to meet the creator” and Trigger-happy Gwen seemingly replies “And today’s the day I kill him”. But the only person we see her pointing a gun at is…Cap’n Jack! Deliberately confusing or just badly edited? Torchwood - Miracle Day - Oswald wearing a bomb? Oswald go boom?

Is Oswald sporting a suicide bomber jacket? Torchwood’s pet paedophile, Oswald Danes, seems to be wearing a shiny new coat, complete with wires and weird little segments. Could the creepy monster be angling for a shot at redemption for his sins? Hint: Jack’s talked at length about how desperately Oswald wants to die. And Russell T Davies loves a good self-sacrifice.

Did they steal that bit from Batman Begins? Oswald says “It’s like they broke the world.” Another voice is heard saying “We tear down in order to rebuild.” I’m getting overtones of Ra’s Al Ghul in Batman Begins – wanting to tear down a corrupt society in order to rebuild it. Or, if you want to be biblical about it, a bit of the Noah’s Ark concept.

The only thing that doesn’t make sense is that if you want to destroy society, why would you make the population immortal? Unless…

This is just phase one! Yep, several times during the teasers, you’ll hear people saying “This is Phase 1?. You mean there’s more to come? Kill me now! We know the political and financial structures across the globe post-Miracle have begun to crumble. I still don’t understand how this works, given the environmental impact of an immortal (and growing) population has to be catastrophic. Unless the Miracle can be reversed at a key time?

Oswald asks a stupid question. To Jack: “You’re from the future, then you must know. Do we survive this day?” Er, he’s from the future of a different planet, mate. And I’m from the future of Earth, but I couldn’t tell you who survived the destruction of Pompeii!

Tearful goodbyes? Rex is seen snapping a guard’s neck, but in one scene he seems to be saying a tearful farewell to Esther. And elsewhere, Jack’s grumbling about being old and it being the right time to die. It wouldn’t be a series of Torchwood without one major cast member getting brutally offed, would it?

But will Jack become immortal again? In one clip, Jack can be seen widening his eyes and gasping for air – something that normally happens after he’s been killed and resurrected. Could it be that Harkness will survive this day and go on to fulfil his destiny as an enormous head in a glass jar?

Here, for your viewing pleasure, are the teaser videos:

How to make: A fashionable cake

The Stella McCartney ‘fruit print’ has become one of the most iconic patterns for the season, with high street brands such as Zara following suit. However, the look can be fairly difficult to pull off unless you’re a stick thin model, so we’ve found a way to get your fashion fix and your hunger fix for a fraction of the cost of a real Stella. Courtesy of Apollinas. Ingredients: Directions Heat oven to 350°F. Butter two 8?, 9? or 10? round cake pans, line the bottoms with greaseproof paper, butter again, and dust with flour, tapping out the excess. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; set aside.Using an electric mix, beat the butter and sugar on medium-high until fluffy – this will take around 2 to 3 minutes.  Mix in the grated zest of the oranges and lemons.  Beat in the vanilla, then the eggs one at a time.Reduce mixer speed to low.
