The cast of The Amazing Race 19 was announced this morning, and it includes, as we’ve known since June, Survivor winners Ethan Zohn and Jenna Morasca. The race debuts Sept. 25 and will also feature two new elements: a double elimination and an element called the hazard.
The cast of 11 teams includes other “teams that have competed at a very high level,” Phil says in the preview below; that’s a reference to a team of Olympic snowboarders, Andy Finch and Tommy Czeschin; Zac Sunderland, who sailed around the world by himself at 16; and a former NFL player, Marcus Pollard.
The twist does not sound promising, because it’s about handicapping one team somehow. CBS’ announcement said that “Teams will be tested early and often and met with a new penalty called the ‘Hazard,’ which will impact one Team’s future on the Race right from the starting line.”
In promising news, we have Ethan and Jenna, who literally are the reason I will watch this fall instead of giving up on the show, which is what I planned to do in May. They are good people and television, and should be interesting to watch, and not just because Ethan recently battled cancer.
Once again, EW insisted it was exclusively revealing something that came out in a press release and which I reported on two months ago, after the Reality Fan Forum crew photographed Jenna and Ethan—and other cast members—in an airport.
EW did have some new information, an interview with Ethan in which he said that their different approaches to game play may create conflict: “I played Survivor different than Jenna played Survivor. And if Jenna wants to stab someone in the back and do something evil and mean, it’s going to be tough for me to do that. I’m okay with helping someone fix their flat tire.” Jenna said, “That’s not gonna happen.”
