True Blood executive producer Alexander Woo has admitted that the vampires won’t be having an easy time of it this season.
As well as the usual dissenters within their own ranks, humans who want to kill them and of course the werewolves, in the fourth run of the popular HBO show the vamps will also have to contend with a very dangerous coven of witches.
Coven leader Marnie is played by True Blood newcomer, Harry Potter star Fiona Shaw and Woo explained that although at first her character will seem relatively harmless, she will turn out to be the ‘big bad’ of the series.
“I’d say the witches certainly pose the greatest threat to the vampires that we’ve seen yet,” Woo told The Hollywood Reporter. “I think what [the witch coven] represents is the power of the human and sort of the power of life.
“[Whereas vampires] represent death and it’s the contrast of life versus death, with human versus vampire, that I think is the crux of this season,” he continued.
On her new alter ego, Shaw admitted that fans will at first underestimate her powers, adding that in the end, Marnie will abuse the powers she controls. She said:
“She’s pretty bad, but she’s also pretty good. She’s a pathetic person who becomes very powerful and maybe starts to abuse her power.
“[She] goes after pretty well anyone who crosses her path.”
