How did country music superstar Tim McGraw discover that he was the son of Major League Baseball’s Tug McGraw? Which of his family members was rubbing elbows with George Washington? Keep reading for your sneak peek of tonight’s all new episode of NBC’s Who Do You Think You Are? featuring Tim McGraw!

Tim McGraw has had a very successful career as a country music singer, selling over 40 million albums, with 31 number one singles, three Grammy awards, 14 Academy of Country Music Awards, 11 Country Music Association Awards, and 10 American Music Awards since his 1993 debut.

In recent years, Tim McGraw has made a name for himself as an actor, appearing in films like “The Kingdom,” “The Blindside,” and most recently, “Country Strong,” where he teamed up with actress Gwyneth Paltrow, who will also be featured in an episode of Who Do You Think You Are? this season.

But things weren’t always so great for McGraw. Growing up, he was raised by an alcoholic father.

When he was just 11 years old, McGraw came across a copy of his birth certificate. It was then that he discovered the man who had raised him was not his biological father.

After confronting his mother, Betty, Tim McGraw (who at that time was Samuel Timothy Smith) learned that his biological father was Major League Baseball’s Tug McGraw, who had a brief relationship with his mother. Soon after Tim McGraw was conceived, Betty met and married Horace Smith.

And if that wasn’t interesting enough…

In season 2 of NBC’s Who Do You Think You Are?, Tim learns that his family had some friends in really high places.
