VIDEO: Kings Of Leon's <b>Reality TV</b> Past - The Hollywood Reporter

If you're wondering what a Glee-ified version of a Kings of Leon song would sound like, look no further than NBC's a capella competition show The Sing-Off, which featured a group version of "Use Somebody" in the second episode of Season 2. 

The show, which is hosted by Nick Lachey and judged by Ben Folds, Shawn Stockman and Nicole Scherzinger, opened with a rousing rendition of the 2009 hit, delivered by 11 a capella groups singing in unison (the winners receive a recording contract and $100,000 from Epic Records). And it's not the only time that the worlds of Kings of Leon and reality TV have collided: On last summer's American Idol tour, winner Lee DeWyze sang "Use Somebody" as part of his nightly set.   

The band did consent to the song's use on The Sing-Off, but when it came to Glee, the answer was no, which raised the ire of show creator Ryan Murphy. "F--- you, Kings of Leon," he says in THR's Glee cover story. "They’re self-centered assholes, and they missed the big picture. They missed that a 7-year-old kid can see someone close to their age singing a Kings of Leon song, which will maybe make them want to join a glee club or pick up a musical instrument." 

Kings frontman Caleb Followill responded, by telling THR: "This whole Glee thing is a shock to us. It’s gotten out of hand. At the time of the request, we hadn't even seen the show. It came at the end of that record's cycle and we were just over promoting that particular song. This was never meant as a slap in the face to Glee or to music education or fans of the show. We're not sure where the anger is coming from. We just said no to a license for a TV show, which we do a lot.”

That could have been the end of it, until Kings drummer Nathan Followill tweeted on Wednesday morning that Murphy should "see a therapist, get a manicure and buy a new bra." He's since apologized for the comment, which many criticized for being homophobic.
